we have always wanted to eat at this famous restaurant , on a stormy november night we arrived fifteen minutes early to be met by the restaurant manager who in a very abrupt way informed us that we were early. We were offered a drink and we were not seated at our table until nine thirty . The food was... more

I cannot dispute the quality of the food, we enjoyed our meals very much however this was overshadowed by the rude manageress who made us feel like we were an inconvenience and the lack of atmosphere. The restaurant was deathly silent and we found ourselves having to whisper to have a conversation! I did not relax all evening and would... more

This was an anniversary dinner. We had been previously been at a lunchtime and enjoyed the food. Again the food was good as was our £27 bottle of wine. However when we got the bill I queried the price of our pre-dinner drinks - 2 vodkas and coke costing £13 and my husband's liqueur coffee costing a massive £11. The... more

I took my boyfriend here for the night as a birthday treat - and it was wonderful.. We arrived and it was rainy, grey English day and neither of us were feeling well - but after a wander around beautiful, unspoilt Emsworth started to perk up. Such a lovely, friendly atmosphere. We stayed in Clove which was small but really... more

Ignore the negative reviews. If you love fine cooking you will love 36 On The Quay. The cooking is technically superb - the chef displaying his skill with first-class ingredients, exciting flavours and great fun 'big night out' presentation. We stayed in the Nutmeg room - yes the accomodation is fairly simple but is priced accordingly. In fact 36 is... more

The location of 36 is right by the quayside and i expect would look lovely in daylight. The welcome was warm and we were very quickly shown to... more

Rich French food extravaganza with limited choice. Accommodation disappointing. 5 choices on menu per course, all with shellfish or ham. Was told a veggie alternative was available on booking, but wasn't on showing up. All choices on menu extremely elaborate. No option for a green salad or just 2 courses. 3 full courses period. Menu didn't change on second night... more

We have stayed at 36 On the Quay on a number of occassions, the last being in May 2007 and have never been disappointed. It consists of four rooms above the restaurant plus a small cottage opposite. All of the rooms are tastefully and elegantly decorated and are reached up a narrow staircase- so if you need a lift this... more
