Having recently spent four nights at The Bear I am surprised to see such negative comments about this hotel. Whilst I would agree that it was not luxurious it was certainly comfortable enough for the price (pricing was a bit complicated - our four nights ranged between £55 and £75 for a double room with breakfast.) We stayed in room... more

We were here for a wedding so really just wanted a place to crash in (thankfully!). Our room was freezing cold when we arrived and like previous people have commented, no hot water came out of the tap. We were told this was because the hot water had run out. The bathroom was dirty, as was the bedroom carpet. Bed... more

My girlfriend and I booked up at last minutes before reading the reviews on here. The night before we left I read the reviews on here and was worried. Our worries were gone once we arrived. The welcome we received was warm. We were in a twin room (no 33). We didn't see any thread bare carpet, apart from the... more

My wife and I stayed in the Bear hotel for one night in January 2008 we found it in a state of terminal decline. We wrote to Greene King who advised us that they were taking action to improve the hotel as it is May and from the comments shown things have not improved. I would suggest that any dissatisfied... more

Weekend break taken at the Hotel on assumption Greene King the well known brewers would be a good recommendation. Oh dear not so. The hotel has been sadly neglected over many years. Staff were fine but they are fighting an uphill battle. Everything is worn beyond its useful life, tables sticky, chairs sag, carpets thread worn, paint faded. Few people... more

We stayed at the Bear Hotel for a friends birthday bash in March 08. Whilst the party was good the hotel accomodation is by far the most appauling I have ever experiences - ripped wallpaper, literallly no hot water coming out of the taps - just to clarify that's not cold water coming out - NO WATER - when I... more

We have travelled alot of the world and can honestly say that the service we received was impeccable. The food that we had the privelage of eating was... more

There is nothing good to say about this place. Food is really dreadful, properly bad. Rooms are grubby. Staff are grumpy and unhelpful, actually the bar staff were ok but were having to be friendly when the guy in charge wasn't there....go anywhere else ! i've never reviewed anything else before, but you need to be warned!!! more

Well what can say- just wish I'd checked this website before booking my stay! Arrived at The Bear with my girlfriend Friday lunchtime, and were told we had been moved to room 49 in order to accommodate a large party due to arrive the following day- not sure if we were "upgraded" or not, but would dread to see the... more
