We thought we would have a trip to the picturesque village of Stockbridge and have afternoon tea. The Grosvenor looked good from the outside so went in. Bad mistake. Afternoon tea was served in the bar. We asked about a selection of cakes and were given the choice of one. When it arrived the slice hardly covered the plate. My... more

Stockbridge is a strange place; a single 'High Street' in the middle of the Test Valley. It is ideally situated for a relaxing break, close enough to visit the New Forest and many Stately Homes. The Grosvenor was chosen as our base due to its cost and location (£134 for DBB). Externally the Grosvenor looks nice, and it is clear... more

For a hotel that is owned by a major plc that has made more than £100 million pounds profit per year for the last four years the standard is extremely poor. The public areas are shabby and worn. The bedrooms desperately need decorating. The bathrooms suffer from mould and dirt around the bath.We had five rooms and in at least two of... more

My wife and I stayed at the Grosvenor from 28th September until 5th October 2009. We had read bad reviews of it in 2008 but went to see it then because of fond memories of a stay there about 40 years ago. We classified it in 2008 as decayed but with a touch of class. The lunchtime menu at the... more

Having read a number of other reviews, it was with trepidation that my partner and I booked a room in the hotel (but leaving it so late to find accommodation for a wedding, we had no choice). On arrival we were checked in without bother, and went to the room, which turned out to be perfectly lovely. Admittedly, the bathroom... more

We booked this hotel with some doubts having read some very poor reviews and some good reviews... We can now understand the difference between what people thought. On that basis, this review is in several segments.... First of all the rooms: they have definitely seen better days. Wallpaper staring to come off the wall; mould on the ceiling in the... more

We booked this hotel through Laterooms where it had excellent reviews and then looked on tripadvisor which filled our hearts with dread. In actual fact, it was a charming hotel. We had a lovely and very tasteful room, the staff were very helpful, and thebreakfast was first class, with an excellent buffet followed by the widest a la carte menu... more

Having passed through Stockbridge a few times and liking the look of the place, my wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a night there and explore the locality. The website made the hotel look very appealing, just like one of those beautiful well kept country house hotels you see in the magazines...the reality was slightly different however. On... more

The room in the annexe was like a dark dungeon with an unmade bed, overflowing wastebin, dirty towels on bathroom floor and a standard lamp with no bulb and no lampshade. 'Housekeeping' were sent to service the room and 20 minutes later she had gone and the bed had been made, 'clean' towels put in the bathroom but the bathroom... more

We only stayed one night in this grubby, badly run, badly maintained disgrace to the title "Old English Inns". This place lets down Stockbridge, Greene King and our country, the sooner it is closed the better. more
