The George Hotel is a 17th Century townhouse enjoying a wonderful location nestling on the water’s edge between the castle and pier in the bustling harbour town of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. This magnificent building is steeped in history and was once home to the most noteworthy of the Island’s Governors, Sir Robert Holmes who often entertained King Charles II. Today the country house interior with its sweeping staircase, ancient panelling, uneven floors and stone flags is complemented by smart contemporary flourishes. The 17 bedrooms are individually designed, many with spectacular views of the Solent or the vibrant harbour.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

All the trappings without the service and food. The menu was so tiny by the time we came to eat there was 3 choices. They are dining out on their seafront location. Not worth the money over priced with no substance so many better places to go even the yacht club with the same view has better service and happier staff.

Where do I start….had lunch in the restaurant NYE where the service was very slow, un attentive and had so many holes in the service. Then I asked if we could celebrate NYE at the bar and was told that unless I paid for the disco, I could buy a drink and go to my room as the music was for paying guests! We were residents that night. We went out to a more friendly place. When we were leaving to have dinner, the reception told us we could sit in the lounge area between 8-10 and then go to our room! No thank you I thought! We went out to dinner, bought wine from the restaurant as they were closing and went to our room like good children! I wasn’t allowed to sit at the bar and spend £120 as I would hear the music but could listen to the music in my room through the floor! Ridiculous! Next morning poor service in the restaurant again, cool poached eggs, blood pudding could be used as a deadly weapon, awful but it was included! Perhaps the management is poor or it’s off season. Wouldn’t bother to go back. I’m an Ex Pat who visits family all the time. Try the Seaview Hotel, much better.

We spent Xmas and New Year at the George it was fantastic. We had Xmas Day with family and the food, service and atmosphere was brilliant. New Years Eve was spent with the wife and this was probably one of our best NYE nights out, from the start of the evening being welcomed with a glass of Champagne to the end of the end night countdown to bring the new year in all had excellent vibes. We can highly recommend Christmas and New Year at the George, and especially to Nicole for making it all so seamless and stress free.

Popped in for Brunch on Boxing Day. Amazed to find anywhere open as we thought at best we might get a takeout coffee somewhere, so this was a proper treat. Lovely location, beautiful Christmas decorations, lovely friendly staff and delicious brunch! Good choice on menu and my pot of tea hit the spot too.

Without a doubt - at £20 per head - this is the best Sunday roast in amazing surroundings, on the West Wight … the hotel is all decked out for Christmas and the smell of gingerbread cooking in the kitchen greets you at the front door. You need nothing more

Delightful hotel with real charecter. Comfy rooms - ours overlooked the sea. Helpful staff. Cosy bar. Close to the mainland ferry, and well located to explore Yarmouth. I'd definately recommend it.

Entrance over worn-out doormat. Receptionist on the phone for 10 minutes letting out hyena like laughter. Apologising and saying she was talking to a client (My foot). Seats in sitting room pushed in so tight you could not sit on them. An air of end of season and no supervision. Orange juice at breakfast not fresh. Rooms tired.
