This hotel was truly awful. We booked the most expensive room 4 poster bed and all. When we were shown to our room there was some Stilton left on the dressing table. When this was removed we realised the room smelt of stale smoke and damp. The 'museum' claim is just an excuse not to renovate/decorate. Only plus side was... more

We have just returned from a two day break at the Walpole Bay. It was a truly unique and charming experience after too many years of international faceless hotels. We were last minute bookers and had been hoping to hire a cottage in fashionable Whitstable just along the coast but after a dozen phone calls we realised that Whitstable was... more

From the moment you step inside this charming old place wins you over. Having stayed on four occasions I totally fell in love with the old world charm and sense of being in a time capsule. It was its faults but who cares; a simply wonderful place. more

I stayed here for one night only this week and am still laughing to myself about my stay. It was booked for me thru work and I never checked it out before I arrived ,so after stepping into the reception I felt as though I had stepped back in time and did not quite know what was going on. I... more

The Walpole Bay Hotel is not in the heart of a vibrant resort, It does not offer many of the modern amenities of the modern commercial hotels of today. There is no pool or spa, The TV in your room does not have an inhouse channel which tells you about everything on offer. It could be argued that the Walpole... more

We were in Margate for a wedding and we chose to stay at the Walpole Bay Hotel in Cliftonville. Well, that was a GREAT choice! We arrived very late (close to midnight), and the night staff was very welcoming, despite the late hour. The next morning, the wedding party met us at the hotel for breakfast. They made the right... more

Stayed here for two nights in early April with my family - two kids aged 11 and 10 - and my brother, visiting from Canada. We loved it. Hotel has a unique charm, with wonderful, friendly staff. It is a throwback to a bygone age, with Edwardian antiques and bric-a-brac throughout the hotel. Mrs Bishop, the owner, is very hands... more

The Walpole Bay Hotel is in the most perfect location. It is very relaxed, very well managed, and every room has its own character. The restaurant serves excellent food, and the cream teas are to die for. Loved every minute of my stay here. more

We had a very comfortable room looking over the bowling greens and the sea. The hotel may be a little frayed round the edges but it is kept very clean. The first night we found the mattress a bit soft, when we mentioned this the next morning the mattress was changed while we were having breakfast. That's service for you!... more

Had another fantasticly enjoyable stay at The Walpole Bay Hotel. We have been there three times now and each time I grow fonder of the establishment. It is very well run in a relaxed and friendly manner. Staff are helpful and willing and I have never been made more welcome in a Hotel. Rooms are all comfortable, we have our... more
