We booked this hotel for our friends 40th. We booked and considering the price (an offer where you spend at least £70 per couple on dinner and get accommodation and breakfast for free) we didn't expect it to be too good as it was so cheap. HOW WRONG WERE WE. The hotel is beautiful. Staff friendly and welcoming. Rooms (we... more

My husband and I spent our first holiday in 3 years, without the kids that it, at this hotel. I can't say enough good about it. We were well treated by very friendly staff. The food was excellent (my husband is a chef and he could not fault the food!) and we were never kept waiting. We have decided that... more

We stayed in an executive double room in their lovely annexe. We were made to feel welcome on arrival, nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent - roomy and with an elegant luxury feel to the room. The dining areas, service and the food was second to none - totally recommended. The whole atmosphere was one of a... more

The rooms were very dated, especially the bathroom. Wasn't made to feel welcome of comfortable at all. The only thing that was good was the food. Would't stay there again. more

Lovely friendly hotel, enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. The bedroom lived up to all expectations. Was really lovely, one of the best four-posters ever! However, the bathroom although clean needs updating and lets the room down a little. The gardens are really well kept and very pretty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was closed... more

Have stayed here on several occasions and, whilst there is a big difference between the cheaper and more expensive rooms, all are clean and well maintained. The cheaper doubles and singles are fairly small and I would recommend paying the small amount extra for the larger executives in the annex. The staff are always friendly and the food is varied,... more

24 Jul 2007 | Trip type: Family

Both the hotel and its restaurant totally epitomise provincial english services. The whole establishment is stuck in the 70s as far as facilities and service go, and the rooms could well do with an upgrade; the bathroom particularly is a bit tired. A rather unpleasant smell permeates the corridors, and the food is simply not good enough, particularly at the... more

We were looked after incredibly well at Sysonby Knoll. We have stayed in a lot of hotels around the world but you don't often get the level of friendly service that we experienced at this hotel. Very much a family run atmospehere throughout. Room 2 is superb and the restaurant is so unlike many stuffy hotel restaurants, with excellent views... more
