I was working in the Northallerton area for a couple of days and didn't fancy driving back and forth between there and home in York, so picked the White Rose Hotel for an overnighter. It's half a mile from the A1, very convenient for the business traveller, but unlike those soulless chain hotels or motel-like places you usually have to put up with if you're working away and on a tight budget, this was more like staying in the village pub. In fact, it is the village pub, with a modern bedroom extension built on the back. Sure, the rooms need a refurb, but the bar and dining areas were really nice, the food was excellent, and above all the staff very friendly and professionally attentive. There was a very nice feel about the place. I thought it was very good value, and I would definitely stay there again if I was in the area. more
