What a wonderful B&B. A lovely welcome, our bags carried from the car park, and a super room. Tea and coffee tray with home made shortbread biscuits, a dish of fruit in the room, a bag of chocolate treats and top notch toiletries. Lovely cooked breakfast, lots of choice and home made jams and marmalade. Spotlessly clean, original wooden floors and beams. Great central location. Go to the Willow Beck pub for drinks and food.

What can I say that others have not already said. The house is beautiful. It is old and of course this means that the rooms have to fit the space available, but having been shown them all they are all lovely and all have their own character. Porch House is in the centre of Northallerton so perfect for bars, restaurants and the excellent Everyman cinema. The room I was in was dominated by a big and very comfortable bed, with a large and modern bathroom. Notwithstanding being on the road side of the house it was not noisy and it is of course charming to stay in a room where Charles I also stayed. The two things that really make Porch House a wonderful place to stay are firstly the owners and secondly the little additional touches. Christine and Charles are the people the phrase 'They could not do enough' was invented for. They told me that they want to make Porch House the type of place they would like to stay in and they succeed in not only doing that but making it the type of place I like to stay in. They have a long history in the hotel and food and beverage business and know what they are doing. They are warm, friendly and efficient. Breakfast, continental and hot, cooked to order is immense, both in quality and size. They serve great coffee and fresh and I do mean fresh orange juice. They put chocolates in the room every night as well as a fruit bowl, biscuits and fresh milk for tea and coffee in a little fridge in the cupboard. There was a hot water bottle in my room which was much appreciated when I got in from -6 degree temperatures outside. I whole-heartedly recommend Porch House and when I am back working in Northallerton again I will most definitely stay there.

A third excellent stay in this character-packed place. The rooms are always comfy and cosy, and the treats left for guests to enjoy in the room are a special touch. REAL MILK in the room is a massive bonus. The couple who run this are friendly, unobtrusive and produce an outstanding breakfast. I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else in this town.

We stayed here almost a year ago to celebrate my husband's birthday and whilst planning where we might go this February, I remembered that I didn't leave a review at the time, hence the very late review. We stayed at Porch House for two nights and absolutely loved the accommodation. It is centrally located for an easy stroll to the shops, pubs and restaurants and the house itself was renovated and dressed to such a high standard! Every detail in the room had been thought of and we had a very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing stay. Breakfast in the dining room situated in the older part of the house was amazing! Charles was very helpful and recommended an excellent restaurant a short walk away - Origin, a stylish, small plates restaurant with a great atmosphere - and also recommended a visit to Stokesley en route to Staithes where we paid a visit to a tiny pub called the Green Man and had a stroll around some lovely shops. We will definitely rebook the next time we're in the area.

Dating from 1584 Porch House is the oldest private house in Northallerton and is a beautiful building. The original owners were connected to Royalty so the house has a lot of history, the most important being that in 1647 King Charles I was held prisoner here by the Parliamentary Commissioners en-route to London where he was eventually executed in 1649. The house is now run as a B&B and is simply fabulous. It is situated in the centre of town and has ample off-street parking at the rear of the house. We have stayed here twice now and on both occasions the owners Christine and Charles have been welcoming and gracious hosts. All the bedrooms are beautifully furnished and very comfortable and I love the extra little touches like the bowl of fresh fruit, home made biscuits and a little bag of delicious chocolates. Breakfast is served in a lovely room that features an old range cooker and simply oozes history. After a fresh fruit salad with yogurt we both opted for the full Yorkshire breakfast that had thick cut bacon, butcher’s sausage, black pudding, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, beans and fried eggs. All the ingredients were top class, cooked perfectly and nicely presented. Quite simply you couldn’t get a finer cooked breakfast. And that last sentence applies to Porch House as a whole, i.e. whether you are talking of hotels or B&Bs, you simply couldn’t find better accommodation and we look forward to our next visit.

Stayed in early September when attending a wedding about 6 miles away. Tight for time, so Charles (the host) allowed my partner and I access to the room in order to get changed and drop our stuff off. Not only that but Charles then drove us to the venue. Porch House is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history. It is on the main high street in Northallerton, I briefly popped out to buy a belt but I would say that Northallerton is not short of decent bars and places to eat. The room was large, spotlessly clean and with a four poster bed - very unique. The bed was massive! Charles on the journey to the venue told us about his past and that he had owned a restaurant in Massam. So the breakfast in the morning was absolutely first rate. Christine (Charle's wife) is super friendly. There is parking to the rear of the property and a very well kept walled garden. This place is expertly run by the owners Charles & Christine and we look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Porch House is an amazing B&B and is very highly recommended. The standards and attention to detail given by the owners is exemplary. Yes it is an old building with furniture and decor to match and it works perfectly. The tea/coffee and homemade cake on arrival were a welcome surprise (and the cake delicious), the room was immaculately clean, the breakfast made with the freshest products, the additional treats in the room were a real surprise and much appreciated. It's located in a great place with free on-site parking and is ideal for walking into town for the shops and pubs or restaurants. The owners Charles and Christine are extremely polite and helpful, and go out of their way to ensure guests are happy with their stay at Porch House - thank you both and we would definitely stay again when in the area.
