We had seen this pub advertised, and decided to take a look. Well it was fab, we got a warm welcome, great service, food was very good, local people who eat there on regular basis were very friendly, apple crumble to die for. Will go back again. More

After recently moving to the area, we where recommended this pub for its excellent by the girls in the local Argos . We where not disappointed the food was excellent, all home cooked and fresh. The kids were made welcome and we all came home not needing any tea!!! Definitely will return! More

We ate at the Shepherd's Rest carvery today and really enjoyed it! There was a good selection of food, three meats and lots of veg. Tasted really good too. We hope to return again in the future. More

We went back to the Shepherd's Rest for the carvery today because it's the best in Alnwick. It's not a 'chain' pub, but a unique place to eat, with friendly banter from Bob. We would recommend it! More

Just had a brilliant weekend at The Shepherds Rest Inn. The small caravan site (5 units) is very well laid out - plenty of room between pitches, nice little flower beds on each pitch, delightful ducks and very clean facilities - and reasonably priced at £20 inc ehu. The pub has a very nice ambience and is a delightful reminder... More

Another delicious Sunday lunch at The Shepherds' Rest today. The welcome is always friendly; hence we keep coming back. It is well worth a visit, for an excellent Sunday carvery, to this character pub. More

I visited the pub and restaurant for one of their much fabled Sunday lunches. Having heard good things we headed along and walking in the door it felt like it was 1977 again. We were seated in the bar which was about half full and could see a temporary carvery setup with pans full of veg and a roast side... More

A cosy, real-fire end to a soggy Northumberland August day. Great local music, good beer, fantastic company. But the real entertainment is standing station behind the bar. Every pint comes with a dry take on just about every aspect of modern life. Bob is a Northumbrian treasure, if not a national one. Oh, and he can't half cook, too. Sincere... More

Home from home - well without any of us doing the hard work. We stayed with our friends for 3 nights week commencing 19 September 2011 and had a fantastic time. Bob is the perfect host, he is funny, entertaining, a good cook and very welcoming in his homely inn. There's a real nice atmosphere to the place and it's... More
