Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently hired out the back room which opens up onto an outdoor space. Dan and his team provided us with a delicious buffet. The afternoon couldn’t have gone any better, the bar staff provided an excellent service, despite the numerous cocktails they were asked to make. We have had dinner there many times in the past so it was an easy choice for us. Would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere to hold a function.

Nice lunch of chicken and cassoulet...Good portion, reasonable price. Staff pleasant and pretty efficient service. I don't like being asked for service contribution as I'm paying the bill. Overall, enjoyed lunch.

Stayed for two night while visiting relatives. The place has been brought by a group and some things seemed to of improved. Had the evening meal which was excellent, a bit lacking in vegetarian choice one of our party commented on this. Portions were of good size and service was excellent. We stayed in room 16 which was a good size, the bathroom had one of the best showers. Good night's sleep on really comfortable bed. Breakfast was good but wife thought it a bit strange no pastries, cereal or toast making facilities. To be fair since covid a lot of places are taking the same route. We would stay again when visiting the area.

Whilst a little lacking in atmosphere, we had lovely, generous portions of food and attentive service. My partner (a connoisseur of this dish) opted for gammon and egg which he declared “the best he’d ever had” and I had venison faggots (which enabled a doggy bag treat for the boy at home!)

We had a lovely 3 night stay, sadly I couldn’t eat the meal on the first night as I was feeling a bit queasy, I must add NOT the fault of the food however my husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We did eat out the the following 2 days as we travelled a distance away. The room was a lovely size with a walk-in shower. The floor of the shower was rather slippy, as I have bad knees, it would be good to have had a grab bar on the wall of the shower. Breakfast. Hubby had a bacon butty every morning. As I’m not keen on smoked bacon I just had poached egg on toast. As my appetite isn’t very good it would have been nice to have cereal such as cornflakes but none on offer. The staff at the Bower Inn are all lovely & friendly & very obliging. Would we stay again? Possibly if in the area.

Hi Carole, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feed back from your recent stay. It's lovely to hear that you enjoyed the food and the service from the team here. In terms of the shower, if you were to stay again- please let us know as we do have anti- slip mats available and even accessible showers in some rooms which would have made your showering a little easier for you. We're also more than happy to provide a lighter breakfast for you! Once again thank you for your feed back and we do hope to see you again.

Beautiful pub, lovely staff...alas 3 of us had a very expensive disappointing ploughmans lunch. Very small wedge of cheddar & Stilton, nice slice of beautiful ham, bit of chutney pickled egg ( pickled within an inch of its life) and a slice of sourdough toast????? Not really a ploughman's and it cost £16....yes really. ( How did the ploughmen toast their bread I wonder???? ) Surely a hunk of fresh crusty bread is called for? Such a lovely old pub and garden though I'd hate to think we wouldn't go back .

This is a lovely pub with friendly staff and a very nice garden. However the food is expensive and the portions small. We both had a ploughman's, which at nearly £16 was one of the most expensive we've had. On paper it looked worth the money but when it arrived the portions of cheese were tiny, babybel sized. Also, I don't think toasted sourdough goes with a ploughmans, a crusty roll is called for. For 2 pints and 2 ploughman's it was nearly £50. We won't be going back

Living near the Bower we go often for a quiet drink and or to meet friends. We went this afternoon and were driven out by four different dogs barking and yapping at each other. The staff seem to think that dog friendly means that they can do as they like and that they shouldn't ask the owners to consider other customers. It looks like another local is the next search

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review. We're sorry to hear that on this occasion this incident ruined your experience. As you stated we are indeed dog friendly and have people stay with their dogs too. Unfortunately there times where the dogs may bark. As you mentioned in your review our team should be there to politely ask for consideration of others and we will look to ensure the team here are comfortable enough to do this should it happen again. Once again thank you and please accept our apologies. The Bower Inn team
