My partner and I have just returned from a two night stay at The Old Vicarage Hotel. May I firstly say, it is exactly that: 'An old building' which was previously a 'vicarage'. I do feel a little sorry for the owners as I feel some of the previous comments have been rather harsh and un-representative of the hotel. One... more

A well-run and reasonably priced hotel in a building full of character and history. Our room (Somerset?) was lovely with a comfortable 4-poster bed in a large, high-ceilinged room with exposed wooden beams. The long walled garden at the back of the hotel was charming and made a pleasant area for a peaceful stroll after breakfast. Breakfast was wholesome with... more

After waiting for someone to finish urinating in the archway so that I could try and negotiate the tight turn into the car park, I managed to check in just ten minutes before the 10.30pm curfew (M5 issues). Room had a musty smell and the television was basic and just about capable of producing five channels of grainy viewing. On... more

Was really looking forward to a great weekend away at the somerset carnival with my little boy......booked in for the Friday night and travelled 4 hours to get there. Got to one mile away with 90 minutes until the latest check in time, called the hotel to ask for the best way to get there by foot as most of... more

This hotel is well worth the stay as the rooms are exceptional and the food is of the very best quality, being locally sourced. The owners, Paul and Stewart are very professional, having been in the industry for many years and are very welcoming. Highly recommended. more

I have a dislike of staying in the budget chain hotels and like to find little independant hotels with a bit of charm. As the name (Old Vicarage) suggests, this place is just that - really really Old. The room I stayed in was a good size and I could get WiFi access for a couple of £'s. Breakfast was... more

The price suggested the hotel would be a cut above the average - but it is at best ordinary - and the idea of service peculiar. We were put in an annex and given a long list of things that we should NOT do. The room was of a high standard - but we only got to see the historic... more

Avoid at all costs!! This hotel is an utter shambles - period. In all of my years of travelling, by some substantial margin I have never encountered a more diabolical or shoddily-run place on the planet than this hotel. It's a real horror show. Where do you begin? The staff are downright rude, inefficient and unhelpful. The security measures, petty... more

We stayed there on our way to Cornwall and wished we'd stayed longer. The hotel has an amazing history and loads of character. Our room was one of their newly refurbished rooms and had an excellent bathroom with a power shower. The staff tell me that nearly all of their rooms have now been upgraded. We also loved the formal... more

Avoid At All Costs! Very Fawlty Towers! The rooms are tiny, the rates are very expensive for the area £85+. You have to HIRE an iron and an ironing board! You have to pay a PREMIUM for HEATING AND HOT WATER during the day time as "other guests have told us they do not want to pay for this service!?"... more
