This hotel we knew it was a historic building. But it's rundown very dusty. The room we stayed in had a single bed and a double bed which were very comfy and clean linen. But the downfall was no radiator in bathroom it was Baltic there was just a net curtain on window which was unacceptable. Plus a safety issue involving kettle which was on a small shelf ( which is a box for pipes) so you had to pick up boiling kettle and carry it to a set of drawers were the cups had been set out which is dangerous. Plus lights outside bedroom were not working and stair carpet in places it was threadbare again dangerous. On our first night we asked when would the restaurant to be told no they only do breakfast . Breakfast was fine and have to say the staff were friendly and helpful. But it would be a lovely hotel if it was updated.

Poor state of room, with badly marked carpets, uncomfortable bed on which covers smelt of tobacco smoke and bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment. Luke warm water no matter how long tap left running. Lumps of plaster coming off the ceiling. Missing double glazing panel.Disappointing in the extreme.

Very disappointed. Room was very cold. Never cleaned our room after first night. Considering it was New year no atmosphere at all went to bed early. Think for the money you charge certainly needs to be upgraded. We came last year and certainly more atmosphere then. Don't think we will be back again

Just had an awesome Sunday Roast. Melt in your mouth Roast Beef with all the trimmings followed by an exquisite apple crumble with homemade custard. All compliments to the Chef and staff for making this Sunday Roast a truly special one. Will definitely be back for future culinary experiences.

Excellent greeting and even carried some of my bags up the stairs to our room. Although decor a little tired and room facilities needed updating it was a nice comfy room. The service and homelessness is second to none. They looked after us as if we were family. Nothing was too much trouble even assisting in getting a takeaway in and drying my daughters clothes as she got soaked. We will def be back again and the breakfast was of excellent quality and service was 5 * all the way through from arrival to departure.

Me and my partner stayed here for two nights this weekend, we felt very welcome from the minute we got there. Our room was nice, clean and comfy. Our breakfast was really tasty and good value and all the staff we spoke to were so friendly. Special shout-out to Mary who was top notch from sorting out transport for us and giving us a good laugh. Bar area was a really nice place to have a quiet drink and chat with the locals. Just a really pleasant stay. Just a side note, it’s really sad to see so many negative reviews. It’s the cheapest hotel in the area and really good value for money, if you want 5* then spend the money and book a 5*. Don’t complain when you have spent £70 on a room for the night and expect the world. Thanks Mary and the gang x

Not quite the worst hotel we've stayed in, but definitely in the top two. Dirty, dingy, threadbare carpet up to the damp smelling corridor didn't quite prepare us for the cramped, dated, charmless, cold room ahead. The bar looked quite pleasant, but the four guys having a loud foul language competition, put us off having a drink. I appreciate that the building is old, but that's no excuse for the sadly neglected state of this hovel. The manageress was the highlight of the stay, she deserves a positive mention, thank you.
