Built in 1883 as a family home, South Lodge Hotel still exudes that feel, Amongst the 93 acres of parkland. Inside are 45 exquisitely furnished rooms, some with romantic four-posters, others with bubbling Jacuzzis, and wherever you turn stunning views over the South Downs. Lewis cooks carefully and superbly using fresh local produce, Much of it from our own walled garden. The art of the cooking is matched by a carefully selected wine list. more » « less

What a fantastic hotel. The staff are amazing especially the head of maintenance who was very helpful when we had a few problems in our room. The food was great but service a bit on the slow side. All areas inside the hotel are exceptionally well looked after but as an avid gardener we were a little disappointed about the... more

I have stayed repeatedly at the South Lodge Hotel on conferences over the last three years. My recommendation is that it's a great hotel to soak up the atmosphere of a country house on the South Downs - for one night. After that, the hotel is a bit tiresome. Showers do not hold a constant temperature, leaving you at the... more

South Lodge is an old country house with much history (carefully explained in the hotel literature), located in a small village quiet a few miles away from the A23. There is a large hall like reception area, the staff are very friendly, explaining the fluffy dog is the hotel's do not disturb sign. We booked a junor suite with views... more

Having stayed in fantastic hotels on business around the world, I am usually very critical of hotels and restaurants in the UK. However, I was charmed by South Lodge and had a thoroughly relaxing weekend. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we checked in -- and a complimentary upgrade was a lovely surprise. Throughout our stay,... more

Just go back from South Lodge in Lower Bedding what a wonderful hotel and I am normally very critical. I dislocated my Knee 2 months ago and on check in we were offered a groun floor room but we decided I could manage the stairs so Simon the Duty Manager offered my a piggy back up the three flights. When... more

I booked this hotel based on the reviews I read on Trip Advisor and I wasn't disappointed. We had a Luxury Double Room with views over the South Downs which were fantastic. The service was excellent and the staff were polite and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. I must admit it is pricey but for a special... more

Part of the Exclusive Hotels small chain, this country house hotel is made special by the quality of its staff. Exclusive Hotels know how to find cheerful and efficient staff! The hotel is very peaceful, being set 93 acres of gardens. My mother and I spent two nights here and were pleased with our rooms/suites, especially Smithy which is part... more

100%, 24 carat, unadulterated pure decadence. Beautiful grounds, staff who cannot do enough for you and wonderful, well-appointed, luxurious rooms. Restaurant is mind-bendingly delicious with sensitive and polite staff who'll make you feel like a king even on a pauper's budget. One of the sexiest, most indulgent places we've ever stayed in. more

This is a fantastic and understated hotel. The views and countryside are magnificent and the service faultless and discreet. The rooms are really big and the restaurant is definitely 5 stars, although a bit pricey. We went on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis which is extremely good value but make sure you arrive hungry for dinner as it is... more
