We stayed in one of the village waterfront cottages. It was clean and OK, but nothing special. Our interaction with the 'hotel' staff was limited but as previously stated the Federal Group own most of the town anyway. You can use your room key to charge many purchases to your room. Convenient, but has that Disney feel to it. We... more

We stayed in the "hill view" rooms, which were pretty meh. Nothing special, but absolutely fine. One of our party was super keen to do the train trip, so I was very happy to get a package including the room, gordon river cruise and half price train. The cruise was fine, although the size of the boats now means the... more

We arrived late (10pm) but were treated with some suspicion by the receptionist who would not allow us into reception until our names and booking had been checked over an intercom first. We stayed at the 'Franklin Terrace' two roomed apartment. It was clean and had the heating and lights turned on for us so it was quite warm and... more

We booked a two night package through Pure Tasmania, which included two nights in a garden view room, two adult tickets on the Wilderness Railway (including lunch) and a full breakfast each morning. This was great value. Our room was spacious and clean; the view only looked out to some trees, but certainly wasn't offensive; the breakfast each morning was... more

Recently spent 3 nights at the Strahan Village. Went on the Wilderness Railway on the first day and the Franklin River Cruise on the second. The weekend, including the accommodation and the two experiences are world class. The local hotel - Hamers - is a snapshot of the locals. You get real west coast service along with great food and... more

We stayed in a Waterfront Terrace room in Strahan Village for three nights in January 2009. Overall, Strahan has a Disneyland feel -- it's pretty and well kept, but it seems like a re-creation of the real thing. It seems that most of the town and activities are run by the Federal Group (you can book them through the Pure... more

Strahan Village is basically like staying at Big Brothers House. The whole village is owned and controlled by the Tasmanian Casino group called 'Federal Hotels'.... they own the hotel, the shops, all tourist attractions, the railway, the restaurants ..... they have a complete monopoly on the whole area and there is no getting away from them. Expect to be ripped-off... more

We had booked our Hilltop view room via the internet ($133 per night not inc b/fast). We were surprised to learn that the only view was of the back of the hotel. The room was a bit dreary and tv reception was pretty average but overall it was okay. We had breakfast in the 42 view restaurant - my partner... more

The downside of this hotel is negotiating the Call Centre booking system. It took me three attempts to get the "package" I wanted at the advertised price. Also excursions seem to get cancelled if the numbers are down and Strahan is a long way from anywhere, so this would be very disappointing. However, the setting is stunning and the garden... more

Having stayed at 2 other "Pure Tasmania" hotels during our tour of Tassie, and been blown away by both, our last 2 nights at the Strahan Village were a major disappointment. We did have a huge room but it was tired and damp. The location is good but the service from the reception staff was poor. Checking out there were... more
