We stayed here because it was recommended in a Route 66 guide book. The recommendation rated it an exceptional value and exceptionally clean. Apparently, since the review was written, the place changed owners or something. We had stayed in a Route 66 "vintage" motel the night before in Lebanon, Missouri, and it was just wonderful. So, we know there are old rt.66 motels out there that have been lovingly restored. But Relax Inn is definitely NOT one of them. It was pretty dirty, shabby and everything in the room was broken. The highway is about 6 feet from our window - so traffic noise was really bad - not to mention the train that passed every hour and sounded like it was coming thru the room - and blasted the whistle for added effect! The bed was so old and soft, I was tempted to sleep in the car - I swear we would have left, but my poor husband was so exhausted from driving, I didn't have the heart to make him get back in the car and look for another motel.
