This beautiful Craftsman home located in the historic town of Oakland has been lovingly maintained and furnished in period style. The rooms were comfortably furnished, there is a nice common area upstairs with games, videos and books. The host and hostess were VERY friendly and helpful, and the home-made buttery scones the highlight of a delicious and plentiful breakfast.

One word of warning, however: the house is not entirely smoke-free -- the host smokes and even though the smoking is probably confined to the kitchen or other non-guest areas, the smell of cigarette smoke permeates the entire house, including the guest quarters upstairs. There truly is no such thing as "non-smoking areas," a reality the host apparently seems oblivious to.

This B&B succeeds in every other way (and my husband and I are veterans of B&Bs) but if smoke bothers you, I would suggest alternate accommodations.
