...Heading from Portland down to Tahoe, I finally stopped by this little treasure at the mention of several other friends recommendations. Fatigued from a late start, the water felt silky soft on the skin (due to high amounts of that wonder mineral: silica) and the combination of heat and minerals numbed my body to a heavenly state. The houses and... more

The occasion was a treasured family member's 60th birthday and her birthday wish was that our family travel to Summer Lake Hot Springs for the weekend. She hadn't stayed there before, but when exploring that part of Oregon years ago she'd stopped in to look around. She's talked about getting back ever since. We were in the Ranch House, and... more

Booked 3 nights online for a romantic weekend. It was a little slice of heaven for us with starry nights, long vistas, and a gorgeous outdoor rock pool. We spent our days exploring Winter Rim, Thompson Reservoir and the nearby wildlife refuge. Lots to do for us 'desert rats'. The owner was expecting us and had the cabin ready. No,... more

This quiet place in the high desert is a compound of attractive and comfortable cabins next to a rennovated barn with a big indoor hot springs pool and a lovely one outdoors. The tranqility is somewhat marred by an overabundance of rules posted everywhere trying to ensure that all the guests "respect the sacred place." The hosts keep the place... more

Attempted to book a reservation but was told the computer had crashed and I would be called right back. 5 hours later I called back only to be told that policy had changed and I now needed to book more than one night to be able to stay (no where is this stated on the website). After reading the horrible... more

The natural scenery is beautiful. The hot springs are nice. That's it. The rest is a crashing disappointment. We chose this place for a family reunion of sorts, based on their website. The web designer deserves an award for creativity and selective photography. We stayed in the Homestead and it was beyond dirty - mouse droppings on the counters and... more

The website looked great so I booked the Ranch House and the Homestead cabins for a group of six guys doing a motorcyle tour of Southern Oregon. The Ranch House was fine, except that it didn’t have air conditioning. The Homestead was another thing. First, it’s a long way from everything else. Second, nothing inside was square, flat, or fit.... more

I was so looking forward to staying here. The website looked great. The location interesting/spiritual and the philosphy of "green building" engaging. I was kind of shocked when I showed up. What appeared to be a rustic spiritual resort in the desert turned out to be a rundown trailer park in the middle of nowhere. Everything was shabby, grimmy and... more

This is wordy, but necessary to try to "get" this place. I have visited this very healing place many times over several years, during all seasons. Amazing sky changing and displaying constantly with great clouds, stars, moon; weather is very invigorating in all seasons; wonderful hiking onto the dry lakebed playa in one direction and up on the uplifted ridge... more

If you're looking for a unique experience in a unique setting, I'd highly recommend SLHS. But please don't confuse this place for a Marriot or a Holiday Inn. If you're a room service type of person who needs everything perfect ... do your research first. We stayed in the nicest unit: the Ranch House. It was a stand alone house... more
