My husband and I have stayed at several of the McMenamins properties. We enjoy relaxing with a few adult beverages, eating some good food, and kicking back in the soaking pool. This a family friendly place and not what you normally would expect at a McMenamins Property. The hallways were packed with families with wee ones running up and down... More

I saw this hotel featured in readymade magazine several years back and thought , "I HAVE to go there someday" so we did! It did not disappoint. If you like quirky, cozy, and unique, this is your place. We stayed in the Counting Room and it still had the original chalkboard. The soaking pool is outside and it is saltwater,... More

Have stayed here in the past but recently stayed again on 1/28/12. We were in the "Art Room". We showed up and were nicely greeted by the front desk, given our keys, and directed to where we would be staying. We unloaded our stuff and being a Saturday night all of the bars were open for business. We grabbed a... More

This is a fantastic place to stay if you like things a little quirky or different. For example, no room numbers - just room names based on the artwork inside them, cool weird artwork all along the corridors, wavy carpets in the hallways, every lampshade in the restuarant different from the next, an outdoor soaking pool, a cinema, the 'detention'... I loved everything about our stay except for the hugely disappointing fact that our 13 year old son was not allowed in to a 7:40 movie showing. What's up with that, Kennedy School??!! They explained that it was because people were drinking, but he was allowed into the pub with no problem. What a horrible thing to have to tell... More

The Kennedy School is a beautiful hotel. It's nostalgic, lending memories of fall foliage making a cameo appearance for a short duration, the smell of the halls at Victorian-era elementary schools tucked away in a residential neighborhoods, homes adorned with pumpkins on porches and fire glowing leaves on lawns. This place is insanely busy, and seems to attract many families,... More

Great food, beautiful gardens, friendly staff, amazing artwork - most importantly, great greyhounds with fresh squeezed grapefruits. We loved hitting the outdoor soaking spa with it's waterside bar. This place is a playground... More

I had heard great things about the renovated schools, and we decided to stay here the last night before leaving Portland. Our room was across from the entrance to the restaurant - which was open until 1am. Old floorboards meant we could hear staff walking up and down the hall - literally all night. The "residential" street out front carried... More

McMenamin's is a brewery that makes excellent beer. They have pubs all over Oregon and Washington. As another venue for their product they started converting unused buildings in Oregon and Washington, such as the decommissioned Kennedy School in NorthEast Portland, into hotels/B&Bs. Within the Kennedy School you will find rooms, restaurants, a theater playing first run movies (sit back, relax,... More

I've never had accommodations anywhere that so perfectly complemented its locale. Portand is a charming city that is at once quirky, rebellious, and friendly; it's old school and progressive at the same time and in the right way. And what could be more old school & progressive than an old elementary school converted into a hotel? This is not a... More
