Over the years, my wife and I have stayed at most of the nicer downtown hotel properties in Portland. This is due, in large part, to using Hotwire for our stays, and pressing the "4 star" button for hotel category. With Hotwire, you never know where you're staying (specifically), until you've made the purchase, and your credit card has been... more

The hotel was nice, quiet and in a good location for seeing downtown Portland. We had a cheaper room and it was small but adequate. The bed was comfortable with higher quality bedding. The attached Jakes restaurant is high prices and the food is not that good. Valet parking is also pricey. Our only problem was that the amount charged... more

I stayed at the Governor Hotel for a week in May while attending a conference in Portland. My room was comfortable and well-appointed, with with an amazing bed. Unfortunately, its windows opened into an air shaft, so it was rather dark though. The hotel is quiet and elegant and the staff are superb. It's also perfectly located near shopping, dining,... more

I was staying at the Governor as part of a block of rooms for a friend's wedding. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and upgraded us to a suite upon our arrival! They also helped me find a nice place nearby to get my hair done and mapped out what they thought would be a pleasant run for my... more

had the opportunity to spend three days at the governor in late april. well located, in the middle of portland. stayed in one of the suites on the 6th floor and it was very pleasant. the staff was very good, the rooms clean and the hotel a jewel. had breakfast at the restaurant, and both my sister and niece said... more

My company has a corporate with The Governor and The Avalon, and they're both great hotels though quite different in style, feel, and location. The Governor is sort of a grand dame of a place, all carved stone on the outside and polished marble on the inside. What impressed me most, besides the Starbucks on site (not that I'm addicted)... more

We spent four nights in one of the junior suites at the Governor, and it was a perfect stay. The room (as well as the entire hotel) was super clean, the bathroom was very spacious, and we had a wonderful view of the city from our large (at least 12 x 12) balcony. The room was a little pricey, but... more

This hotel was a refreshing change from the standard template chain hotel. The rooms are odd shapes and sizes, but very comfortable and quiet. My room was on the 2nd floor. It was small, dark and had a view of the air shaft, but the bathroom was larger than average. Note that it is possible to walk off the street,... more

The Governor Hotel was an amazing find. This hotel, built in 1909, is historically refurbished, and just plain beautiful. It is clean, comfortable, brand new inside, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The views from the top floors of the city were beautiful. The decor was remarkable, with antique stained glass in the lobby, warm fireplaces, couches, internet,... more

We stayed a single night for a getaway. Our room was a deluxe king; the room was average size - it faced on a small airshaft; no view but very quiet (the only sounds we could hear were when people walked by in the corridor). The bathroom was a bit bigger than average. The room was very clean and the... more
