I researched hotels weeks before my visit to Portland, OR, looking at everything from price, location, amenities and what others had to say. I read several things like the hotel is to old, needs work, too noisy on certain levels. Fortunately I booked this hotel anyway and I’m VERY glad that I did. I can’t for the life of me... more

Queen suite, quiet room, small kitchen useful, comfortable bed. Really good selection at continental breakfast just off lobby. Helpful staff. Good location to explore Portland. Very close to Powell Books and Whole Food Market and Fareless Square. Reliable internet. more

The hotel is in the heart of the Pearl District and a great location because many restaurants are within walking distance. Even though the hotel is older, it is well maintained and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a suite at no extra cost. The views of this district were interesting and we liked... more

The Mark Spencer is ideally located for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and business. My "room" was actually a small "suite" consisting of a large bed-sitting room (with fully equipped kitchenette), dressing room (with iron and ironing board), and bathroom. I have rarely slept on a more comfortable bed with the finest linens. The bath was equally well equipped and supplied. Both... more

The staff is super nice, and the rate is definitely good, as well as a good location, but it's almost comical how old everything is. I had a suite, which had a full fridge and a stove, and the stove had to be 50 years old. The elevator is tiny. The cold free breakfast was good. I don't have any... more

We have stayed at the Mark Spencer many times, and every stay has been first rate. The rooms are quiet, the front desk is always helpful, the parking is convenient, and the location cannot be beat. The Spencer is at the edge of the Pearl District and of downtown, only 1 1/2 blocks from Powell's City of Books, the ultimate... more

I stayed at the Mark Spencer for five nights while visiting my daughter over Thanksgiving. The room was clean, quiet, and large for a studio, with a kitchenette. I even got a special price online. The rooms have free wi-fi, and there is a complimentary continental breakfast. The hotel is dog-friendly, and it is near many coffee shops, restaurants, and... more

We travelled to Portland by train for a weekend getaway and chose the Mark spencer from an internet search looking for good deals for canadian travellers and hoping for a hotel offering 'at par' rates. This hotel came up amoung others in the search, the hotel is right around the corner from Powell Books , my favorite place in Portland... more

To me, iIt's the little things that matter and the more I'm charged, the more they matter. In the order they occur to me. 1) Stairwell carpeting needs to be replaced - quite a while ago. 2) TV is a little bigger than my 17" laptop. 3) Continental breakfast. Better than average BUT be prepared to pay $2 for a... more
