It was all too good to be true, but since it was our honeymoon, it was just damn good. After deciding that the generic motels of John Day weren't our thing, we stopped in nearby Prairie City and asked a local pruning her roses if she knew of any nice bed and breakfasts. She suggested we ride down this country road and that there were two to choose from.
We were stopped by a battalion of cows being moved to new pasture (a bona fide cultural experience for two urbanites), and asked the accompanying cowboy if we were on the right track.
As the name suggests, the Riverside Schoolhouse is an old country school house that sits right on a fork of the John Day River. It has two rooms that are divided by a door that could be opened if you wanted to have a large group. Each unit is huge and has a kitchen and private bath. The rooms are cute and rustic without the frilly country craft.
