I was frantically trying to make last minute reservations for a Memorial Day weekend trip to central Oregon. The main purpose of the visit was to see the Painted Hills and I looked for rooms in Bend, Redmond, Mitchell, etc. Finally, I found this place and got the last room. The hotel is in the old ghost town of Shaniko and be warned that there's not a lot there and it's in quite a remote area with lots of twisting, curvy, scary roads. However, it's well worth checking out. There is so much character in the town---the lobby is beautiful, the exterior is very Old West. My partner and I got into our room and the room itself was adequate---they recently updated it and it seemed to have lost all of its "Old West" charm the way the rest of the hotel is. We were a bit afraid to fall asleep because the sense of history around you made me think it was haunted. Every noise I heard I wondered, is that a ghost of one of the old cowboys?
