We needed to overnight in the Altoona area and found the prospect of an economy motel depressing. Happily, a Google search turned up the Cresson House. Travelers seeking accommodations anywhere in the Greater Altoona area could not do better. In fact, Cresson House is one of the finest B&B's we've encountered anywhere in many years of B&B-ing.

Located just a couple of minutes from the Cresson Summit exit off PA Rte. 22 a few miles west of Altoona, the B&B is unpreposessing at first glance, except for an inviting wraparound porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing, Do not be deceived. The interior is elegantly but comfortably decorated in Colonial style, down to the last detail. Marti, the innkeeper, keeps the place immaculate, in fact sparkling.

The beautifully furnished living room or common room includes a good sofa and two comfortable wing chairs for reading, with good lighting (not so common in our B&B experience), and ample side tables... more
