Check-in was quick and efficient. Once in the room our initial impressions were good but when we started to look closely it was clear things were below what one would expect. The carpet was grubby and appeared to have been gived a brief introduction to the vaccuum cleaner. The tray containing the tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc had 2 packets... more

Stayed two nights bed and breakfast, location is excellent right on Marlborough High Street has its own car park to the rear. As expected in an old inn, lots of charm. Checking in extremely efficient and quick. Room was on the top floor front and very spacious. Nice hospitality tray with generous coffee, tea, hot chocolate and biscuits. Bathroom had... more

Called in for a coffee, before undertaking an eighty five mile drive home, at 17:45 on evening of Saturday 5th September. Having waited for more than ten minutes at the bar to be served; was calmly told:- "i'm sorry we can't server any coffee." "We don't have any cups!" Absolutely pathetic. Establishments like this don't deserve to be in business. more

The room and bathroom were lovely and clean, nice comfy bed. The staff were very helpful and polite even when observed having to deal with some rude and impolite guests. The decor of the hotel is shabby and needs updating but it did not spoil my stay, I slept and ate well and enjoyed my brief trip to Marlborough. more

So disappointed, having read the reviews was expecting much more. Room comfortable and clean. Lunch didn't start well when the rather novice bar staff felt a flat pint was acceptable, sadly my partner didn't, and there was some reluctance to correct it. The computerised till system seemed to get the better of my lunch order - which arrived too fast... more

This hotel is part of the "Old English Inns" chain. We stayed in 3 of their establishments in/around the Cotswolds - this one plus, The Royal George Hotel in Birdlip, Glos and The Old Manse, Bourton on the Water. They are all adequate hotels, albeit a little 'tatty' and so overpriced in my view for what they offer. Its a... more

We spent one night when passing through the town. It is an old hotel so has limitations (eg: no lift) but our room was very comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. Our evening meal and breakfast very good, and the staff could not have been more helpful. more

Good service, helpfull and friendly staff , confident without being cocky ,Evening meal adequate, breakfast excellent. Good base for visiting Silbury Hill, Avebury etc. Big bedroom at front of hotel, Original Oak beams and most likely floor boards. Very creaky and uneven but part of the buildings character. Good modern bathroom but noisy plumbing from adjacent rooms. Comfy bed but... more

The staff were very helpful and attentive. The decoration was sympathetically done in keeping with the charm and the age of the hotel. The food was delicious and we ate in the restaurant both evenings of our stay. There was a good choice of breakfast, hard to choose. We would recommend that you breakfast early though because the hotel seemed... more
