The Crown and Garter is situated in a pleasant little village in the middle of Berkshire. When we arrived via Kinton, we saw nothing of the pretty frontage displayed on the web site but drove into the large car park at the rear. This did look a bit rough and desolate, with a bonfire alight at one end. The path... more

The arrival and booking in process was a pleasure with Chris organising my room and taking me there. Room was very good with a comfortable bed and a choice of pillows. Bathroom was clean and tidy with a good choice of soaps. Food was first class. Overall it was a very pleasant evening. more

I agree that the landlady was accommodating and that this area is a beautiful, leafy hidden part of Berks.I was put off by the dreary appearence of the chalet/sheltered accommodation feel to the whole guest area, definitely not somewhere to have a romantic weekend. The heating didnt work and the room was freezing cold, however the patrons fished out a freestanding radiator and... more

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday night for a wedding. Gill could not have been more accommodating in extending the food serving times to fit us in when we arrived later on Friday night than we'd expected, and the welcome was very warm and friendly. The rooms were charming, clean and well equiped, there was seating on the... more

Ive just spent two weeks staying there. rooms are clean and tidy, food is great and the beer aint bad either. From the first day of arrival we were chatting to the locals who were very friendly. carpark at the rear is a bit naff, (full of potholes) It is out in the sticks but well worth a visit. It's not everyday that one celebrates a 40th Wedding Anniversary, at least we don't. Some might wonder at our choice of venue for this important occasion but we are into countryside, quiet, good home-cooked food, real ale and local heritage. Big cities, glitz and razzmatazz leave us cold. Our daughter selected the Crown and Garter from the CAMRA Good Beer... more

This characterful country pub is situated amongst the leafy lanes of a beautiful part of Berkshire just south-east of Hungerford. Its accessibility from the M4 makes it convenient for corporate Thames Valley as well as for wekenders and ramblers. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is good home cooked fare and the beer selection above average. The landlady,... more

My wife and I called in here recently while visiting family in the area and dropped in here for a bite to eat and a drink just assuming it would be just a quick snack and on our way again. We were both pleased by the welcome that we both got which unfortunately is missing from some places these days... more
