My wife and I recently spent one night at the Gundagai Motel. We were on the Hume Freeway towards Melbourne as night fell, so we found the Gundagai Motel in an Auto Club directory - the choice was based on it both being reasonably priced, and accepting American Express card.

Telephoning through to the hotel about 1 hour before we arrived to make a booking, we were able to secure the last remaining room at the hotel, at the rate of $68/night.

We checked in and were assigned room 14. Upon opening the door we were in for a real and pleasant surprise... The room had the most kitsch 1960s decor that I have seen in a hotel for years, right down to the patterned sheets. It was so true to the original style - from the pink mugs to the check pattern tea-towel. I had to take photos..

The bed was comfortable, the room featured a table and 3 chairs, a fridge and a television with tea and coffee facilities. As with the whole room, the bathroom was spotlessly... more
