The YHA at Murwillumbah is like no other I have come across.
It is right on the riverside of the beautiful, tranquil Tweed, with increadible views across to Mount Warning. The hostel itself is a wooden building and our twin room opened out onto the decking at the back. The location and the hostel itself are a surprise enough, but what really makes this place is the legend that is Tassie, the owner.
From the moment you are showed around, you are made to feel like part of his extended family - we arrived on a Wednesday and were duly taken out that evening to the "Jazz, Shanks and Shiraz" evening at Tweed Heads - fantastic food, wine and music all for $15! Tassie shows a real interest in all of his guests and is an absolute gold mine of useful information about the local area (including the climb up Mount Warning - an absolute must - a killer on the legs, but so so worth it!). His care and commitment are summed up by the nightly 9pm ice cream which he provides...
