This is one of the best values in the area. Although it is in Middletown, it is just across the line from Newport. It is less than 1 mile from the Cliff Walk. Also, it is just down the street from the Atlantic Grille, which is the best breakfast place in the area. Everyone was incredibly friendly. They even gave... more

My wife and I stayed here as part of our New England trip. We can only endorse all the excellent reviews. Nice location overlooking a small lake and only 5 minutes drive from downtown Newport. The owner could not have been more helpful and gave us a 10% discount voucher for the Atlantic Restaurant, only 5 mins walk and excellent.... more

Really nice motel. Lovely owners who were very friendly. Had a deck level room which had a great seating area outside overlooking the water, and a really convenient front door opening onto the road which really helped with unloading of luggage. Clsoe to First Beach - five minute walk - and close to plenty of eating places - and only... more

We were invited to a wedding on Jazz weekend when all the hotel prices are doubled. I had noticed the Sea Whale when we had gone to Newport before, the flowers and the grounds are impressive. So, I called and made the booking. Well! what a nice surprise. All though the rooms are small the amenities were large and it... more

Don't misinterpret the title of my review as a negative. In this age of ever upscale, cold and impersonal so-called Five Star hotels, the Sea Whale was a breath of fresh air that transported me back to the friendly, family-owned motels of my childhood. I appreciated the owners of the motel who were always on the premises, and were out... more

My friend and I stayed at the Sea Whale the Weekend of 11/4/05. I made the reservation based on the reviews from TripAdvisor, and all I can say is, we were not disappointed. As I was standing in the security line, working my way towards the gate in Philadelphia to catch my 5:00 PM Friday night flight to Providence. My... more

This motel was absolutely perfect. We have been to Newport three or four times and have stayed in "pricier" places but this beats them all. Since we were with two other couples this time, we were trying to find something in the moderate price range. The motel was lovely, the rooms were immaculate, and the location was perfect. The owners... more

We have been staying at the Sea Whale for the last five years, even before the present owners took over. The motel is very clean and within walking distance to the beach. We stop on our way to pick up coffee and the newspapers every morning and keep walking right onto the beach. The owners are delightful and very accomodating... more
