To call The John Rutledge House Inn a "B&B" is to diminish this historical home. Look up John Rutledge on google to get his history, then realize that President George Washington stopped by for tea which Mrs. Rutledge in 1791 (actually in our room!). The Inn is in great physical shape and the friendly staff will take care of your... more

We stayed at the Inn for seven heavenly days, it seemed so far removed from the hectic pace in Washington, DC and Paris, France - 1 American and 2 French Ladies. Once we got out of the cab, we walked to almost everything as the Inn is centrally located in the historic district. If you don't wish to walk, call... more

I loved the Inn. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfortable and the Southern charm and hospitality was five stars. Wonderful, fresh breakfast. I will return. more

The John Rutledge House on Broad Street in beautiful Charleston was a delight to behold. Entering up one side of the double entry staircase to the magnificient front door, I knew at once that this lovely B & B was setting the tone for what was a wonderful vacation in Charleston. The staff and service were impecable. The room was... more

Being a local, we don't often do the tourist thing, but when we do, it is always at The John Rutledge House Inn. Staying at the inn gives a sense of history and serenity as you move about this magnificent home of one of our country's founding fathers and signers of the Declaration of Independence, John Rutledge. The ambiance of... more

The room was spacious, lovely and meticulously clean. The service warm and welcoming. The room service caused us to gain weight! The staff always offered chilled bottled water for thirsty visitors. Our stay there was cut short by a hot water problem but we were sent to a sister property that was actually an upgrade. We would definitely return and plan... more

I'm not sure what everyone raves about, or why the desk staff think so highly of themselves and the house, it was really nothing special. I've stayed at places for half the price that were double the worth. Not homey in the slightest, the other guests were rude and loud, and the breakfast was inadequate. The best thing about the... more

We just returned from a 3 night stay in the beautiful John Rutledge Inn. Our suite was more than spacious and filled with amenities; the most memorable were the two gas fireplaces, two plasma televisions, canopy bed with excellent mattress and more pillows than one can imagine. In late afternoon, the Inn serves tea, sherry and port with elegant appetizers.... more

I give only three stars in view of the total experience and value for the money. The John Rutledge Inn is a great historical building with much character. However, on a recent stay in Charleston, there were a few glitches. Pros: 1) Great location in Charleston. You can easily walk south into the old historical Battery area, north up King... more
