To be honest we were on our way to Asheville, and chose Columbia as a good half-way point. Not knowing anthing about their local hotels, we checked one of the discount travel coupon books. Suite One descibed themselves as being the newest all-suite hotel in Columbia. Seeing the word "newest" made me think "new". And, at 1:00 in the morning, $39.95 sounded good. Apparently what they meant by "new" was they bought an old hotel, added some paint and new name, and ta-da, they had a "new" all suite hotel. The staff at check-in and check-out were nice. The room itself, though, wasn't. There were cheese crackers on the floor. The sink in the bathroom was like one you see in a convenience store restroom - freestanding, with no counter. Housekeeping had left the previous guest's dirty washcloth hanging on the showercurtain. The hot and cold water was hooked up backwards. We were leary of touching anything, including the sheets, or the phone... more
