Ignore all those earlier thumbs down reviews (seemingly by people who couldn't get into one of those huge, soulless chain hotels downtown on a Vols sports weekend). It's possible the place may have gone through a bad phase, but there's certainly no sign of it now. Closest I can come to the spirit of the place is one of those... more

Four other girls and I pulled up to the St. Oliver without ever have been in Knoxville. We were a little hesitant at first, but quickly learned the saying is true, "You can't judge a book by it's cover." No, the St. Oliver does not look like the typical "Hilton Hotel," rather is very unique. It is filled with antiques... more

So, maybe after the crappy reviews previously posted, our expectations weren't as high, but our suite was vastly nicer than anticipated. Overlooking the thriving downtown Market Square, our lovely antique decorated suite was the perfect ending for our 33rd anniversary 'date'. Hardwood floor in the bathroom and instantly hot water in shower. The staff was thoughtful, helpful and courteous and... more

I recently stayed at this hotel based on the recommendation of a friend that it's nice and close to downtown Knoxville and the Old City. I am sad to say that this hotel was a complete disappointment. Yes, it is true that they are located in downtown. However, so are several other hotels such as the Hilton and the a... more

The Hotel St. Oliver is located in Market Square (best partying place in Knoxville). I could see the square from my awesome suite. I asked for a regular room which was cute- full of antiques- but the air conditioner was broken so they moved us to a suite. It was about 4 times the size of my apartment when I... more

This place, well, let me see., we got there at 4:30 pm and they didnt have our room cleaned and absolutely would not let us in the room. We later found out why! We waited for nearly an hour in a very dirty lobby "stains on the coach and eggs or something all in the floor" after a 4 hour... more

The Hotel St. Oliver may be a great little hotel in a perfect location, BUT we could not tell from the room we received. We were booked into a room (rm 214) which overlooked the cute -market square- area of Knoxville. At tfirst entry, the room looks grand; beautiful wallpaper, great looking, antique-style furniture, a separate bar area. Unfortunately, most... more

The St. Oliver was perfect. Charming, cozy, centrally located and inexpensive. The lobby felt like someone's home, even down to the old black and white classic movie that was playing in the library. All the desk people were charming and had great manners. Great vibes compared to the soulless modern places. And I could walk out to sightsee or shop... more

Because I'm involved in historic preservation and downtown revitalization in our community my brother was pleased when he was able to secure room arrangements for my husband and I at the St. Oliver. We're pretty familiar with the quirky charm of old hotels since one of our favorites over the years has been the Arlington in Hot Springs, AR. So... more

This is a quaint little hotel, just short of a B/B right in the heart of Knoxville. The "line-in" manager is incredibly friendly and adds to the mystique of the property. The location couldnt be better, as it is just 1/2 block from Market Square where you can find anything you want. Rooms are very large and you feel like... more
