We live in Cork and went to Ballymaloe to celebrate my wife's birthday - the meal was extremely good - simple food, but all cooked perfectly - the J Dory in beurre blanc with lobster was the best I have tasted and the porkbelly was very tasty. Add to that an extensive (and not too expensive by Irish standards) wine... more

My husband and I booked at Ballymaloe House for one night at beginning our of trip in Ireland. Although our room was large and clean, it was disappointing in that there were no special touches other than a complimentary bottle of water for each of us. There was no place to lay a toiletry bag in the bathroom . .... more

It always meets the high expectations we have of it. This was a one night treat. The welcome as usual was warm and friendly. We were shown to a charming and spacious room and bathroom downstairs overlooking the garden. The dinner and service were superb (I have just made the spinach and rosemary soup) and so was breakfast. This place... more

Was utterly charmed by the house. the staff, the food, the huge open log fires, the atmosphere - but it just was'nt luxurious enough to justify the price. You really feel that time has stood still in this place and you are tasting a little piece of Irish country house living a century ago. I did'nt even mind being woken... more

This is an old royal manor house (with a Norman castle at its core) in the countryside. Our kids slept in the old gatehouse and we slept in the old stables! The husband and wife owners are beautiful people as are all the staff. Several nights were spent in the drawing room with the owners and other guests fiddling, telling... more

We were given a voucher for our wedding for €150 for the blue book and decided to give Ballymaloe a go. I cant actually believe how much they charge, and how poor it is. The food is cold- I actually had nothing warm for my main course. Cold potatoes (salad) and a selection of cold meats. My wife is a... more

My husband and I and our two year old stayed in one of the "self-catering" cottages (Ewe Cottage) available on the Ballymaloe House hotel grounds for a one week period this summer. Overall, we were pleased with this very affordable option. We were very close to the hotel, with its restaurant, cafe, and gift shop, yet had more privacy and... more

Arrived with very high expectations! Dinner cost Euro 70 per person. For that we got cold salads, eel, oysters and a large side of stone cold beef with the blood running out of it, some very dry turkey and ham and some cold duck. We had to help ourselves. We asked for water but the waiter did not seem interested... more

The grounds are gorgeous! There is alot to do there.....or nothing at all!!! Heaven!!! The rooms are large and comfortable. We had a room which opened out onto a little... more

We didn't make it to Ballymaloe House because of a death in the family two days before we were to arrive. They were very gracious about canceling our reservation without a charge (even though it was within their two-day 100% cancellation charge period). We appreciated that tremendously. more
