Whilst walking the coastal footpath my friend and I decided to head inland, as there was a long wait for the next ferry that crosses the river. We saw that a pub was marked on our map at nearby Bigbury, but had no idea if it would be open or be able to offer us lunch. WOW! What a turn-up.... More

The title of my review makes me sound like a chav with no appreciation for good food;nothing could be further from the truth. In fact I am not much of a chip eater, but the chips I had with my main course at The Royal Oak Inn were possibly the nicest I've ever had and they deserve top billing. The rest... More

Ivan has achieved a splendid balance between providing guests with a stylish, contemporary environment that has also maintained it's role as the local village pub.. We had a great night in the bar with the regulars (and visiting darts team) before heading up to our beautifully renovated room for a splendid nights sleep...(not sure if that was due to the... More

A well run pub/restaurant with rooms above set in a tiny village a couple of miles from the sea. Really great value for a clean and beautifully renovated room. Shower was a bit of a let down and was very small but hey, we enjoyed a great nights sleep, woke to a beautiful view and a wonderful and leisurely breakfast,... More

Just returned from a two night stay at The Royal Oak. Our first impressions were very positive, the hotel has character which hasn't been lost through modernising to a high standard. The bedrooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable. The dining room is very pleasant with good space between tables. The dinner menu provided a good selection of dishes, which... More

As we were a group of 10 we booked in advance for lunch, but despite being late arriving (we were walking to the venue) we were made very welcome. We hadn't intended to, but ended up having a 3 course lunch as the menu looked too good to miss. We certainly weren't disappointed and I wish that we had come... More

Just returned from utterly wonderful weekend at the royal oak at bigbury. Celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary this was a surprise for my Hubbie so high expectations but didn't disappoint! Staff lovely and welcoming, room immaculate and just like pic, food delicious in the restaurant (and i'm really fussy bout my fish) and full english breakfast cooked just perfectly. Great... More

We have stayed at The Royal Oak many times over the years, whilst under various landlords. This stay was by far and away the best. The current owners revamped the pub last August and everything is to an extremely high standard. The beds are really comfortable, the towels large and fluffy, the rooms beautifully decorated in a contemporary style and... More

Firstly, we did not actually stay at this property, but went for a meal to celebrate my father's birthday and were a party of five. Upon entering the establishment, we were met with hostility by the staff, in particular the landlord, whom can only be described as rude. He gave the impression, quite forcefully, that he didn't welcome children and... More
