Lovely place, superb food and excellent value for money, huge specials board including venison. This was a first for me although some of our party had been before. It was very busy, and I would suggest booking if there are several of you, but even so the service was excellent, food served on hot plates, and we were all served... More

I popped in for breakfast whilst cycling through on the Devon coast to coast and had a very nice meal with excellent service. If you are hungry near here make it your choice. There didn't seem to be any one staying at the inn, I did a couple of years ago and found it a bit pricey for the standard... More

The Castle Inn is a superb accommodation. I recently stayed one night with my husband and a friend of ours. The staff immediately made us feel welcome. Our room overlooked the garden and was beautiful. The pub is cozy and the food delicious. Don't forget to walk around the castle ruins and the beautiful little church next to the Inn.... More

I stayed at the Castle Inn during a walking holiday in June 2013. Excellent hospitality and kindness was shown by Sue and her team during my stay. The beautiful 16th Century inn is located next to the castle and just a few minutes from the gourge. The room was very clean, well presented and a contemporary design within the traditional... More

Called in here about six months ago for a beer whilst on a cycle trip. Vowed to return as it was such a nice pub . I did return last week, whilst on another long cycle ride with a friend. After a long day in the saddle this was an excellent place to stay. A very reasonable price for B&B.... More

Ate here a couple of times whilst camping nearby. It is a St Austell brewery pub so a good selection of their beers whilst I was happy with their rioja. Young staff but friendly and helpful despite being very busy on one of our visits. Food was good and a variety of choices, lots of fish options but traditional pub... More

We stayed in the Castle Inn whilst walking the Dartmoor Way. We had the Premier Room which has plenty of room plus a small balcony. Mo made us most welcome and we had a pleasant stay and a good meal that evening.

We were supposed to have camped the night we stayed here but the weather was not on our side. Very thankful for this now as we had a wonderful stay at the Castle Inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food gorgeous and the room oldy worldy! Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Would recommend... More

We have eaten hear a couple of times now. As pub food goes it's up there and serves great grub. I have had the pie both times and its been spot on. It has a good selection of real ales and they are well kept. The last time we was in was Sunday the 5th of May 2013 and the... More

Didn't stay at this pub but visited for a meal. Fantastic pub - happily welcomed dogs as well as their owners! Food was delicious, couldn't fault it. Lovely tranquil garden area. One of the nicest pub meals we've had in a long while. Would definitely go back.

The Castle Inn is a traditional 16th-century inn situated in Lydford, on the Western slopes of Dartmoor National Park. Built in 1550, its plain pink exterior offers no clues as to what awaits you inside. It oozes with character from every nook and cranny. The lamp-lit bar with low, bowed ceilings, many curios, slate floors and an open fire, the lovely snug with high backed settles and the charming restaurant with beamed ceiling. There is a pretty garden to the back of the inn with more seating and views of the castle. Whether you fancy a pint of Tribute and a chat with the locals, a quick bite to eat or a full meal, the the Castle Inn offers wonderful food and drink in comfortable and relaxing surroundings.
