Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped here for lunch. The fire was very inviting on a wet day. The barman/waiter (with an accent) was very attentive and helpful. The food came out in a timely manner and was piping hot and very good. I would visit again if I was in the area again.

We enjoyed a two-day break in the heart of Exmoor at the White Horse. The room was comfortable and warm with good facilities in the bathroom and decent wifi. Plenty of information was provided about walking and driving routes on Exmoor: the village of Exford is ideally central. The food was too good, our good intentions to not over-eat were not kept!

Visited with friends to enjoy the Exmoor Food Festival Lunch menu followed by a walk alongside the river Exe. The food, service and ambiance were excellent. Good Country Pub Food Elevated. Gravalax starter followed by Venison then Raspberry Tart were my choices. Others had Fish Cakes, Hake and Chocolate Trifle. Great location and will be back in the summer.

As always a great experience at the Whitehorse inn. Have stayed 3 nights and due to the restaurant being quiet chose to eat in the bar. Mark has been incredible for our entire stay even reserved us a table by the fire each night. See you again for our anniversary next year!

Family and friends dinner in the bar area. This place was recommended to us by the owners of the cottage we were staying in Exford. What a disappointment it was. Overpriced disappointment. Second the previous review - seasonal veg from frozen bag, when asked for mayo got tartar sauce (surely staff should know the difference). Pictures would look very grey so did not bother taking any.

As we stated in our previous reply to the feedback left by the other half of your party, we are really sorry to hear that we did not live up to your expectations. The owners of the cottage you rented are well known to us and would not be regular customers if your experience was the norm. It is just such a shame that no one raised your concerns whilst you were actually here because we would have gone out of our way to rectify any issues. The fact that we were completely full that evening speaks volumes for what we offer here at The Exmoor White Horse Inn. We are most definitely not overpriced, our pricing simply reflects the current food prices that we have to pay to our suppliers. And all our prices are clearly visible on the Menu, with both choice and prce options to suit everyones tastes and pockets! Once more, we apologise for failing to meet your groups expectations.

We visited The White Horse for dinner one evening while staying in Exford during half term. First impressions were good, and we thought this would be a perfect place for a dinner with family and friends. Sadly, we were so disappointed with the food. For the price of each dish, we expected a much better quality meal.’Seasonal vegetables’ were out of a frozen bag of mixed veg, not even seasoned. nothing special to any element of our meals. We ate in the bar because we had our dog with us, I am not sure if the menu in the hotel restaurant is the same.

We are so sorry to read your feedback and we offer you our sincerest apologies, we truly hate the thought of anyone leaving here dissatisfied in any way. As we are sure you realised during your visit on Saturday night, we were extremely busy with a huge amount of "walk in " customers who had not made advance reservations which completely caught us out on a mid February enening, Hence we ran out of fresh vegetables, along with some other options, very quickly. We only wish you had raised it at the time and we would have gone out of our way to try and put things right. The fact that we were so busy, much of it with regular customers, hopefully makes it obvious to you that your experience is most definitely not the norm. And yes, we do offer both a Restaurant and Bar Menu so there really are plenty of options available as we really do try to cater for all tastes. Once more, please accept our apologies for failing to meet your expectations.

This was our third stay at the White Horse Inn which must speak for itself, but our first one with our large dog who was welcomed as warmly as we were! {including complementary sausage at breakfast} The owners and their staff are unfailingly friendly, interested and courteous, ( nice not to be addressed as 'guys' for example). This is our 'go to' for special occasions; characterful building, beautiful location with direct foot access to the moor, good food. Looking forward to next time!
