Please do not go there, we do not feel bad to say this because we like the place so much, we want to keep it to ourselves. You will not find a more accommodating place in the Devon. We are still dreaming of the eggs benedict in the morning and the delicious 4 course dinners in the evening. We will... more

Huw and Sam offer a really special welcome at this lovely small hotel. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The hotel and gardens are truly lovely and Huw and Sam have created a really relaxing and enjoyable environment. more

We had a fantastic couple of nights away, celebrating our silver wedding aniversary. The hotel, the room, the food, the setting - everything was great. The thing that added a whole extra dimension to the stay, however, was the welcome, friendiness and humour of the hosts. It's the little touches that they add that you cannot measure, but make all... more

This is our third visit to The Old Rectory and we have not been disappointed in any way. Huw & Sam continue to be superb hosts, the food is still fantastic, the location is perfect - beautiful, peaceful and just what the two of us needed to re-charge our batteries. If you are looking for an idyllic gastronomic getaway, this... more

This was our second visit and we were greeted like old friends. You feel immediately relaxed as you take tea in the lovely garden and contemplate a wonderful dinner cooked by Huw. Our room was beautifully styled with a comfortable bed and looked out on the garden. It had all the usual touches you expect from a top end hotel.... more

The beautiful South African and I had a super time at the boys' hotel. I remember a loud monologue on the subject of which route to take around the Western Cape, a pretty extensive critique of punishing inventory costs for the modern sommelier and a little confusion over the breakfast cheese sauce. And some anti-posh London slating, probably deserved. And... more

A quintessential English experience: a charming hotel with lovely gardens, just yards from a path that leads you into an oak woodland full of birdsong. Twisted trees dripping in moisture, mosses, ferns & lichens. Suddenly the path opens out to stunning views of the coastal cliffs of Exmoor. All this plus a wonderful welcome and exquisite cuisine from our hosts... more

We had another wonderful stay here last week, 5th-8th May, this time with friends. We were really pleased to be staying in recently refurbished rooms which were beautifully done , comfortable and very elegant. Once again the hospitality was outstanding and we now feel that the Old Rectory sets the standard for us in what we want/expect from a country... more

My Wife and I and two friends spent only one night at The Old Rectory, but we were made very welcome by Huw and Sam the owners, and served tea and cake within 1/2 hour in their lovely garden. Dinner was a 5 course candlelit meal with several choices,no "Poncy food just good wholesome local produce cooked by chef Huw,and served over... more
