We arrived late owing to the usual hold-us on the A303, and it took us a while to locate The Castle in the dark. By daylight this seemed silly, as it is hard to miss! Anyway, tired as we were from the drive we still found our apartment absolutely delightful, so warm and welcoming, and Alison Gordon, the Castle's owner had left us scones and jam and clotted cream, so within moments the tea was made and we all felt well refreshed. Our party of six had taken two apartments (Pear Tree and Lower East Court) and both were spacious, very comforable, and beautifully fitted out. Although the weather was very cold, inside it was always extremely comfortable. The Castle is part Scheduled Ancient Monument, part Grade 1 Listed and has seen a lot of history. It is very well situated in the centre of the delightful town of Tiverton, which itself is the perfect place from which to explore Exmoor, Dartmoor, and the beautiful beaches of the North and South coast of Devon. more
