I stayed here for one night with my adult son. You can pretty well ignore any Tripadvisor reviews prior to the summer of 2009 when the Rees family -- Jenny and Digby + their son -- took over. They're experienced hoteliers from Wales by way of Cornwall, and are clearly acutely aware that the past two Rising Sun managements have... more

Haven't stayed here but went for a meal in the restaurant. The pub is lovely, the staff were so helpful and friendly, the food was fantastic and really well presented, can't fault any of it. There were 11 of us, the service was so quick, I wouldn't hesitate to go again... loved it! Think they could do with a new... more

Found this place on chance as we were touring the area. Stopped for lunch and enjoyed it so much that we took a lovely walk along the river bank and came back for dinner! Enjoyed a wonderful Antipasto Platter on the terrace, sipping drinks, enjoying the glorious Devon sunshine! Small bread sticks were fresh from the oven and served hot... more

Found this Pub-Restaurant-Hotel by accident. While driving through North Devon, with my wife and teenage daughter, we somehow found the Rising Sun in Umberleigh. The new owners gave us a warm welcome. They were evidently eager to make our visit as pleasant as possible and nothing was too much trouble. The menu is simple and uncomplicated local fare. My wife... more

Traditional pub with a warm welcome and real fires. Small menu, but good cooked to order food. I had a lovely homemade soup, and salmon for main. Other half had asparagus/poached egg starter, that was delicious and a steak (that apparently hit the mark!). Great place to stop after walking the dogs along the river just across the road. Dog... more

Stopped in here for a meal and rest form the sightseeing, after hearing that the place had been taken over by new managers from some friends that live near by. Managers seem polite, efficient and able. The place looked cleaner and more cared for. They are trying hard to improve this place after a few years of it being a... more

The Rising Sun Inn is advertising itself as the "new Rising Sun" and we had hoped this would mean more of the same as the "old" Rising Sun; decent food in a lovely old fashioned pub on the banks of the river Taw. Sadly, it did not. We were seated at our table and left with menus whilst it took... more
