We had a wonderful break at this peaceful hostelry in the Dorset countryside. (Residents' and restaurant licence only} Do not expect facilities or room service. For us, it was perfect. All the staff were very friendly but unobtrusive and all professionally trained to do their job whether it be chambermaid, receptionist, chef or waitress. They had thought of everything -... more

The blurb in the room says "restaurant with rooms" - if you come here with that thought and the fact that four people run the place (excluding service staff) you will enjoy the experience - how small hotels should be, charming and quirky Love it more

I loved this hotel, which had been recommended by a nice woman in a fabulous nearby bakery. Staff was warm, friendly and interesting, hotel was old-world charming, Buy the book "The Enduring Village" that tells the fascinating story of Chettle. more

This is a restaurant with rooms and it is obvious where their efforts are concentrated. Very welcoming and attentive staff, Dinners very good - breakfast had a disappointing variety of cooked food. Public rooms could do with a freshening up and the cobwebs removed, along with the piles of obsolete magazines. The blue room looked like a charity furniture shop.... more

We stayed with friends in Blandford who took us to this fantastic restaurant. Although we didn't stay overnight if the rooms are on a par with the fantastic food and the excellent service they will be fabulous. The place itself is very welcoming full of comfortable seats, antiques and a real warm and friendly atmosphere. There was a large party... more

We took the hotel over last night for a mates 40th birthday, and cannot say just how much we enjoyed our day/night. Living only 20 miles away in Poole we felt we were in the depths of rural England. The majority of the rooms are lovely, and huge (especially rooms 1 and 2). The oversized shower heads are fantasic, and... more

I have stayed frequently at the Castleman, with an increasingly aged friend (now 96 years old), so it really does feel like coming home. As the owners themselves suggest, it should not be seen as a "country house hotel", but rather as a restaurant with rooms. By that standard, the rooms are excellent - all different, with old (sometimes creaky)... more

Cannot fault the previous review which sums the place up. You are staying in a historic home, with all the creaks and idiosyncracies that make a memorable visit. Definitely worth a revisit. Food excellent. Cute waiter! more

The Castleman is a restaurant with rooms based in an old Dower House. It has an air of faded grandeur which may not appeal to everyone and does not offer the full range of services you would expect in a hotel but this is more than made up for by the friendly reception and, especially, the food. Everything is sourced... more
