This is an elegant and tastefully furnished B&B. Our room, the shellycoat on the first floor is spacious and nicely decorated and and has a spacious ensuite bathroom . From our bedroom windows, we could on a clear day see the isle of Mey and Bass Rock in the distance. The property is located in a peaceful and quiet rural farmland area. There is also a very nice lounge for guests' use. Cooked to order breakfast is awesome. Ideal for a peaceful retreat for a few days.

Lovely quiet location with private parking and a friendly, helpful hostess. Everything was spotless and well maintained. Good choice for breakfast - freshly prepared by the hostess and as requested by guests. Has a delightful communal guest Sitting Room with numerous games / books. etc.. The roads directly leading to the house are less than well maintained so be prepared for a short bumpy journey. The TV in the room we occupied (named "Kelpie") was not well placed for both occupants to view easily from their beds if this is something that is important to you. To be fair to Troustrie House - we could not think of a better location! The reason for only 4/5 stars is that only a bath rather than a shower was available for this room. Would we return? - happily!

Thank you for your comprehensive review. In response to your comments, we specifically didn't want the TV to dominate bedrooms and there is also a TV in the guest lounge if guests wish to relax and view during their stay. If you visit again, our Shellycoat fourposter room has a shower over the bath. Hopefully we will see you again at some point in the future. With kind regards, L

Lesley runs a truly lovely and delightful guesthouse located in the middle of the fields close to Crail. It’s a stunning, very cosy Georgian house where we stayed five nights in the Shellycoat room on the first floor offering a lovely view on the sea and Isle of May. It’s a large, cosy, warmly decorated and comfortable room with an adjacent super-large, well equipped bathroom. Her breakfasts are truly legendary: the menu offers a full Scottish breakfast, which can be entirely tailored to your personal needs, overnight oat, as well as freshly prepared kippers, which was quite unique if you ask me. No need to say that the preserves and marmelade were home-made. The guesthouse’s exceptional location comes obviously with a challenge: you need to take a small, bumpy road from the main road, used by farmers and the very few neighbours, to get to and from the farmhouse. The only species you will meet on the little road are the rabbits, Lesley is an exceptional host who has plenty of helpful tips and advice for her guests. She will lend you leaflets of interesting day-trip destinations and hiking maps to use on your discovery of the Fife Coastal Path. She also had great suggestions for nice restaurants in the area. I cannot see any other place beating the quality of this B&B in the area. Highly recommended!

Had a fabulous couple of days here. Lovely location, beautiful room with a view across fields to the sea. Breakfast was delicious too. And Lesley was so friendly and helpful - even gave me a lift into the village when it was raining. Would definitely stay again.

A lovely spacious house. The bedroom was great and the views were wonderful. All you could hear were the birds and all that moved on the ground were the wabbits. The breakfasts were amazing. The hostess was very friendly. We had a really good time.

We had twin room which was comfortable with large bathroom which had a bath with handheld shower head for washing hair. Decor in room was very good quality. Breakfast in the dining room was great with home grown strawberries and rhubarb on offer along with cereals before a cooked breakfast which had many choices (ordered the evening before). Lesley was an excellent host.

Can't recommend this beautiful historic home/B&B highly enough. The bedrooms, which have lovely views, are cozy and good sized, with all amenities. Hostess Lesley was friendly and helpful: her "Butler's Pantry", with frig/freezer and microwave, was an unexpected and very welcome bonus. The downstairs lounge was the perfect place to enjoy a book, or watch the rabbits playing tag in the garden. Perfectly located for the area, and near several nice villages for food, drink and activities. We will definitely return.

Our room was delightful with panoramic views and great attention to detail. Breakfasts were a true delight and we particularly enjoyed the kippers and kedgeree, which are hard to find at home in Australia. Lesley was a lovely host who provided lots of good advice on where to eat and things to do, including a most enjoyable 2 hour walk along the coastal track from Anstruther to Crail.
