My wife and I came over for a long weekend in April, staying in the Forest room. This was our first time staying at the Kilmichael and we would definitely go back. We really felt that we were staying in a country house rather than a hotel. The small size and the friendly owners and staff made it a memorable... more

We stayed here overnight at the start of the Kilmichael's season. As a lifelong Arran visitor, I've heard only wonderful things about the food and was delighted to experience it for myself. The meal we were served was sublime- and most of it sourced from the owners' pottager, stock of chickens and other fowl and the Island as a whole.... more

Booked this short break to try and escape from all the stresses of moving house and was cautious about what we would find after reading some slightly indifferent reviews about the accomodation. THEY WERE WRONG! This is a wonderful hotel run by superb owners and excellent employees. Our stay was wonderful and only ruined by having to leave. The food... more

We had a lovely room but it was small , and the shortbread and whisky did not I am afraid make up for the small bathroom, the shower in the bath and the tiny TV. The view was of the opposite room and a very tired garden. It was April so they had winter to spruce up the fencing chairs... more

There are two sides to every tale, aren't there? The view from the room (across a small garden with a pergola covered in wisteria) is of the stone-built cottage occupied by the reviewer's sister on a self-catering basis for a week. The sister had this at a bargain rate - less than half the standard charge for similar accommodation at...

We stayed for only one night, using Arran as a "stepping stone" whilst travelling home from Kintyre to England - but we wished we could have stayed much longer, and will certainly be back. A fascinating building, with lovely sitting and drawing rooms and interesting antiques, and a warm welcome from the staff. Our bedroom had a four poster bed... more

We stayed at Kilmichael for two nights in September, on our way to friends in Inverness-shire. It was our first visit to the delightful Island of Arran, having seen it umpteen times from the north coast of County Antrim. It did not disappoint - beautiful scenery, an abundance of wildlife [think red deer, golden eagles] and plenty to see and... more

Selected this place because of its character and previous reviews and it was well worth it. A delightful old house beautifully refurbished and looked after. The welcome was friendly and sincere and the room (The Smithy in our case) was very nice, beautifully decorated and clean. Dinner was oustanding with probably the best service I have ever had. I would... more

What a discovery! This was our first visit to Arran and we could not have been more fortunate with our choice of hotel. The relaxed caring atmosphere hit us ther moment we entered the delightful historic building. We were made to feel most welcome by the courteous, friendly staff and enjoyed some of the best cooking we have ever had.... more

How do I deflate what many people, the owners, for sure think is five star. May be the oldest building in interesting garden,(mind out for midges)with peacocks, hens(loads of eggs, but not many are cooked) etc but it is compact,a little military in its rules, and not as good as expected. Long rough single track road from the sea front. Helen was most friendly, but does... more

We must confess ourselves both baffled and hurt by this review. Some of this review is valid. It is true that the house is the oldest on the island, - compact (it was built in the 17th Century) and stands in interesting gardens. It is also true there are peacocks and hens aplenty, Helen is indeed 'most friendly' and the...

We stayed here for three nights and felt at home from the moment we arrived. It is a small country house hotel about a mile outside Brodick, the main village on the island. This was perfect for us - we eat at the hotel one night and two at pubs in the village. The food at the hotel was very... more
