To be honest, I was scared by the reviews that I saw here before I went to McLaren Hotel. We went there for my boyfriend’s birthday and at that time, McLaren is the only one I was able to book and afford. This place is really not as bad as what people said. I had good sea view from the... more

I would like to write a review of the hotel's restaurant only, as we did not stay here, however if I were to choose to stay here based on the restaurant I'd rather sleep on the beach across the road! From the outside the McLaren Hotel restaurant looks ok, however walking through the front door should have given everything away!... more

I couldn't believe my eyes when I seen this hotel, looks ok outside but as soon as you step into the rooms, its a disgrace, it is very old fashioned, damp, beds are disgusting, I even overheard another group say how their key could open any room door, not very safe especialy for girls staying there!! To me this hotel... more

We ate in the restaurant in the McLaren Hotel on a Saturday night in July. I hadn't booked into this hotel after reading the reviews (stayed at the Glenartney instead, very nice). We had a nice meal - steak pie and chips - sitting in the conservatory, but were regaled with shouting, singing, yelling constantly from Mac's bar adjoining. Not... more

I felt a lot of guilt about booking this dump as my two golfing friends looked at me if I was an idiot. Rooms were old and the doors were like something out of a 1950's holiday camp. Worst thing was the breakfast service. You could hear the 'waiter' repeat everything to the 'cook' in the kitchen next door. Fools.... more

I stayed at the McLaren Hotel in early May 2007, with my wife and a party of approximately 45 people. We had booked months in advance for a weekend break and to do some hill walking, the hotel website gave a good impression, and as we had never been to Arran before, several of us booked an extra night. Arriving... more

I stayed at the hotel in april 07 i found it to be a great hotel okay lets be honest the decor is dated but the rooms and overall hotel is very clean. The staff where supberb a little bit slow in serving the food but i think that was due to the fact that all the food was cooked... more

We were unfortunate to have had to stay at this hovel for 2 nights in May 07 - what a beautiful looking island as you step off the ferry only to wish you had never thought about booking into the Mclaren Hotel or should it be referred to as the Mclaren HoStel?? I wonder what some people are used to... more
