Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds overlooking Holy Island but when I booked my room via late rooms I did not realise that I had infact booked a chalet which was in a block at the back of the hotel. It was very damp, miserable and smelt musty. It was more like a dormitory for children. My booking ref was as follows -
En-Suite Twin Room sleeps 2 Breakfast included: Non Smoking Requested, 2 Adults
(Twin en suite chalet- in small print)
Luckily we were offered an upgrade into the" hotel" which was a lovely room, very clean and spacious. Breakfast was good and staff very friendly. My whole experience of the hotel and Arran could have been very miserable had we not paid extra for "an upgrade"

Our large family was visiting Arran for a family memorial. The Altachorvie easily accommodated 20 of us in comfortable and functional rooms in a beautiful setting on this lovely Island. An excellent full Scottish breakfast with extras was served by friendly, happy staff. The owners are very kind, thoughtful people who went out of their way to help our group, from arranging a piper to play at our memorial to offering to transport some of our group. Really tremendous people. We were only there for 3 days but should have stayed for much longer. The island offers golf, hiking, walking, beaches and pubs and restaurants. The Altachorvie offers a full breakfast, bagged lunches and a variety of dinner options, including a Scottish dinner one night that included a piper and haggis. Lots of fun. more
