Lovely place to stay in a '50 environment (but with modern touches) with a great view on the Scapa flow. Huge breakfast with everything you need and more :). Joy has a lot of information about things to do and see ( and eat). Top More

Burnside B&B After 21 nights in 10 different B&B’s and/or hotels across the UK we decided that the Burnside is the best. Located above the Stromness harbor, it is easy to find and offers ample parking. It would be a 10-15 minute walk. It is an old farmhouse with recently updated bathrooms and fantastic views. The rooms are spacious with... More

Joy only started the B&B this year but she has quickly become an accomplished host. The glassed-in porch for tea/breakfast provides fantastic views of the harbour below. The bedrooms are large (we stayed in the Scapa view) with lots of lovely pillows. The sheets and towels were high quality and much appreciated. The waterfall shower was a dream. Joy has... More

We recently stayed 3 nights with Joy and Robbue in Orkney . Joy is a joy - She made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. It's more homestay than b and b as I find myself having conversations with joy and Robbie in their kitchen , living and the milk shed ! Rooms are warmly furnished , good size and... More

Joy is an excellent host who has just begun her business recently. Admittedly the house is covered with the usual Orcadian drab pebbledash but get past this and you will not be disappointed. Our room was excellent with an amazing shower. Breakfast was great with lots of home-cooked goodies and a complementary afternoon tea on arrival. Definitely worth a stay! More

This was the second B&B that we have ever stayed in all our Travels, as we've always stayed in Hotels or Apartments other than on this trip to Scotland where we decided that we stay in B&B's which will be a novel experience for us. We stayed in 4 very good ones and Burnside Farm was the best of the... More

This B&B has everything you might want. Our room was comfortable with a wonderful, animated view of Stromness and the countryside. Joy and Robbie were wonderful hosts. For us one of the most memorable parts was a tour of their dairy farm. Breakfast served in the sun room was delightful. We especially enjoyed the local Orkney cheese. More

Joy Ritch is a spendid landlady, and the place is neat, warm, both as a climate, and more for the treatment. Extraordinary breakfast with the milk of their farm; the excellent cheese is not made by the husband Robbie, but produced using the milk of the farm. Joy prepares personally marmelade and jellies, the poached eggs are a real speciality,... More

Stayed a weekend enjoying great farm produce breakfasts sat in the sunroom looking down over Stromness with its pretty harbour, and the mountains of Hoy staring back at me. A comfortable Foam Memory mattress ensured I slept soundly, and the shower was the most powerful I have ever experienced. There is a complete absence of Noise in the archipelago, and... More
