I have to say i disagree with the last review. i stayed for three nights over the august bank holiday and thought the hospitality was excellent. all staff we encountered were helpful, smiling and eager to please. we ate in the hotel on more than one occasion in order to listen to the traditional music and the food was excellent.... more

Booked a meal for 2 . Locally sourced food according to the menu. The prawns were frozen tasteless, the mussels were from New Zealand stale and dreadful. I ordered a steak having seen the healthy herds of cattle on the island. The beef was tough and despite being ordered "medium rare" was dried and fried. The staff did not care... more

We stayed for one night last week on a holiday in Orkney. We would have stayed for longer, but they were fully booked. I thought the hotel was full of character, and very comfortable, especially the 6 ft bed we had. Our room was at the front, right above the Flatties Bar, and we didn't hear any noise at all.... more

This hotel is like a medium standard hotel of the 1970s era. It is old fashioned but ok. I'd stay there again. Its friendly and the location is great. Stomness is a lovely town - very old fashioned like its hotel! more

Tired and showing neglect. Food and presentation is disappointing. Staff pleasant but untrained in the basics. A coach party hotel that ticks over but not the best choice for the independent traveller. more

Just got back from an excellent break in Orkney, and an enjoyable stay in the Stromness Hotel. Room was clean, very spacious and well appointed. Had a great view of the harbour from our room. Booked 2 separate nights. The first night the reservation was not honoured, and the receptionist blamed me for not having confirmed the reservation. I have stayed at this hotel for the past 5 years there used to be a english gentlemen running the restuarant but he has since left, the stromness hotels loss by what i have seen when i was there this year inexpericened staff customers coming second as the waitresses where chatting up 2 young boys i use the word waitresses... more
