Shieldaig is a very special place and Tigh an Eilean feels like it belongs. A warmer and more welcoming refuge from the drama of the November weather would be hard to imagine. When the sun emerges, the view from the hotel to Shieldaig Island is difficult to beat and there are very few places with such a range of wildlife... More

With my wife Paula and son Tom and girl friend Jayne we all spent an excellent 5 nights at the hotel in late October. A perfect base for exploring the Torridon area....some excellent boat trips...fantastic scenery .....breakfast to die for and a cosy coastal kitchen serving good beer and great food. The hotel rooms were excellent for our needs and... More

My friend and I spent one night here in September while touring Scotland up the west coast and heading towards Inverness and the north to get the ferry to Orkney. We were fortunate to get a last minute booking in a sea view room with fabulous views. The welcome we received was warm and friendly and the room was clean... More

We booked into this charming hotel the morning of our afternoon arrival and found it to be clean with great food. We appreciated the honor bar, the drying room, the quiet sitting rooms and the helpfulness of the staff. We had been told ahead that it was "lovingly worn" and that proved fine with us. We visited a nearby 5... More

I was a last minute booker in September 2012, got the last room. Nicely equipped, cosy & warm, despite the gales raging outside. The 'honesty' self-service bar is a feature and very popular. Dinner was superb & very nicely served by local staff with great knowledge of the area. Features in the Michelin Guide, hence the quality was to be... More

We stayed 2 nights in this charming hotel, the location is great ... provided there are no 'midgets'. Our double room had just been renovated and was comfortable. A minus point is the bathroom : my husband is tall, impossible for him to take a bath and he had to kneel down to see himself in the mirror for shaving.... More

We arrived in Shieldaig at luchtime and looked for somewhere for a quick snack. We found our way into a small doorway that appearres to be a village bar. There was no signage above the door but the decking and ouside eating area upstairs made us aware there were eating facilities inside. There was a board outside on the pavement... More

The village of Shieldaig in Loch Torridon is a remote gem and the Coastal Kitchen at Tigh an Eilean makes it worth a visit. We enjoyed a great evening in the bistro, fab food, lively atmosphere and great service, enhanced by the magnificent view from the roof terrace - apparently there are Golden Eagles on the island in the bay... While the rooms might be overpriced, they are nevertheless charming. But the evening meal was on our top 3 places we dined when in the UK for three weeks. Even restaurants in London where we dined could not match this place. It was absolutely fantastic. The diver scallops were the best I had ever had. I stopped counting the courses,... More
