We stayed at the Port Charlotte Hotel in May. We had a room that gave a wonderfull view over the bay. I would guess that we were very lucky with the weather, having unbroken sunshine for three days. Our room was very clean & the hotel staff were very friendly & helpfull, with, perhaps, the exception of the barman, mentioned... more

We felt that this was the best place to stay in Port Charlotte. We ate dinner here for the 2 nights and had the best monk fish. It is right on the shore and had a view of a lighthouse. I would fall asleep to the waves crashing. Walking distance- a long walk- to the Bruichladdich distillary- our favorite distillary... more

We have just returned from a 2 night break at The Port Charlotte Hotel, it was a family break with my husband, son and daughter. The Hotel is lovely, the rooms spotless, but i have to agree with only one point of the previous review (the rooms are too hot at night). The staff were very pleasant and accomodating, the food was... more

I booked a week's stay at the Port Charlotte at the beginning of the year based entirely on the Trip Advisor reviews. As we got nearer and nearer to departure and the reviews got more and more critical, not surprisingly I got more and more worried. I needn't have. We both found the Port Charlotte welcome to be a warm... more

Lovely hotel with friendly staff, good food and excellent facilities. Our room had a picture window overlooking the water and the bathroom was sheer luxury. The owner chatted at the bar and was very friendly, I would recommend this to anyone and we will be back more

I concur with the two previous reviewers regarding the surly barman. When we approached this charmless character at 7:30pm to ask about the possibility of having a meal he responded glibly that there were no tables available despite there being a few empty tables in the bar at the time of request. He made no effort to offer us an... more

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in July. On arrival we were shown to a sea-view room (no.5) which was tiny and slightly tired. It did indeed have a sea view but one side was of a wall of the hotel. Finding room for our cases was very difficult. The bathrroom, though small, was clean and had been... more

My wife and I have stayed in the hotel twice and found it excellent, but pricy. On holiday this year we went to the hotel for a bar lunch with son, daughter and grandson. The barman was extremely surly and unhelpful and could not even bother to bring menus to the table. On seeing the menu we were horrified at... more

This was our 'splurge' at the end of 2 weeks of B&Bs throughout Scotland - we were expecting a little bit more than the cozy room with a view of the parking lot through 2 tiny windows (Room #2). It was situated right next to the 'Handicap' toilet for the restaurant/bar. Apparently there were quite a few handicapped individuals there,... more

We were only able to stay one night at The Port Charlotte because of its popularity & we had a great time. The bar manager, Fraser was very friendly & helpful, as were the hotel managers.( A couple of the staff weren't quite so welcoming, but that didn't spoil the overall experience for us & you can get that sort... more
