Overall we enjoyed our stay. There was a bit of a blip at the start when we arrived to find we were not expected despite having paid a deposit. Having travelled a long distance with my elderly mother this was not a good start to our holiday. However, once in our blackhouse the accommodation was really good. Clean and cosy... More

Friendly staff, lovely blackhouses in a stunning location. Ideally situated for many of the best sites on the West coast of Lewis. Rooms are smallish but we'll furnished and cosy. Can't wait to go back.

I saw Gearranan village for the first time in a Desktop Background and had a hard time looking for what it was. When I found out I decided that it was the best option for my holiday considering that (coincidence!) It was one of my dreams to vist the Outer Hebrides. I stayed in Taigh Glass, a lovelly thatched blackhouse... More

My mother and I travelled to the Isle of Lewis in September 2012 and stayed at Gearrannan for four nights, tucked in cozy by the fireplace, listening to the wind whistling in off the water. To say the experience was out of this world would be an understatement. Completely unique experience, surrounded by achingly beautiful landscapes and some of the... More

we stayed here in September and didn't really know what to expect. we had an amazing stay, the 2person house that we were in was lovely. the fire was lit for our arrival so the house was warm. the view from the window was fab, looking out over the sea. the staff were all very friendly. the house was comfortable... We visited here just as day visitors, on the way back from the Callanish stones. There is a small group of reconstructed Black Houses, one of which is open as a visitor attraction, the others being well furnished for self catering accommodation. The setting is spectacular, and the houses well reconstructed, and in the "visitor's" house there is a guide... More

Very warm welcoming. The house is rustic and perfect and warm and fully equipped. Cosy environment when raining outside. Beautiful scenery. Also there were dozens of rabbits (they venture around the houses showing no fear) and goats (cute and calm) everywhere.

An attractive restored village of blackhouses situated within a two minute walk of the sea. Although a tourist attraction, they did not present a problem to us. We stayed a week and the weather was good with some rain and wind, but also sun. As mobile phones do not reach the site, this is an additional attraction (signal available about... More

Visited the museum and the reconstructed houses in June. They are very interesting and the videos showing the weaving, peat digging, etc are well worth watching. The holiday houses were being cleaned when we were there and they looked to be well- maintained and would be interesting to stay in. the staff we met were very friendly and chatty and... More

We have just returned to Aberdeen after a 6day stay in tigh glass. The black house was fantastic and the pictures did not do it justice. It had all mod cons and the view out of the front door are fantastic. We had rain, sun, wind and a bit of drizzle which only went to make the views more amazing.... More
