Stayed one night at the Royal Hotel. It is an old building with some character, and a nice change from some of the modern chain hotels. Room was spacious, clean with a small, modern shower room. Ate in the bar and the menu has a good selection that would meet all tastes. Local suppliers are named eg a local butcher.... More

I recently stayed for 2 nights in a single room which looks out onto the rear car park and was immediately over either the heating of refrigeration system so was not the quiet stay I was looking forward to. The hotel was fully booked so I couldn't upgrade. The rooms along the front of the hotel have dramatic views across... More

This hotel is centrally located with great views to the front looking over the river on to the castle. The welcome was really great with local tourist advice provided. The room was large and very comfortable with a nice en suite. The room had everything required including ironing board and trouser press. Breakfast was first class and the waiting staff... More

The hotel lies near the town center and there are parking options right nearby. The staff in the reception are nice and helpfull and the rooms are ok. Nothing special, but ok. Its clean are not noisy at all. The breakfast are quite allright. There is what you need and I got kippers for breakfast who - allthough frozen as... More

Staff were lovely and friendly, upgraded me to a double and gave me a room overlooking the harbour, lovely clean and pretty room. Bathroom was freshly decorated but the shower was a bit dated and let everything else down. Fabulous cooked to order breakfast. Ate in the cafe style restaurant for dinner, food was fabulous. The hotel also had free... More

Nice place in great location in town with parking out the back. The rooms seem to be fairly random sizes, but mine was fine as a small double, had a little table to work from. Bit of a lack of power points for charging my gear. Wifi was temperamental but they have a few to choose from so seem to... More

I stayed here for two nights in January 2013 & was given Room 22. The room is tiny & that's not an exaggeration. I could stand in the middle of it & touch both walls at the same time. The ceiling slants at an angle meaning I banged my head getting into a bed that must have been designed for... More

Found this hotel comfortable and pleasant. Many different bars and a good eatery (HS1) Large rooms, with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom can feel a little cool in the colder months but other than that, a quality stay. I have a few more journeys planned and will make this my hotel of choice.

I spent 2 nights ther with a group. Food at dinner and breakfast is very good, and the bar is very pleasant with a good number of whiskies. My room (20) was very small: no table at all, and very warm because of a central heating pipe. Nice bathroom but I had to use a plastic thing to have a... More

While recently returning to beautiful Stornoway for work purposes, i had the good fortune to stay at the Royal. This was due to my original accomodation not living up to expectations and i am pleased to say that the staff did all they could in ensuring that my two weeks at the Royal was home from home.
