We had a wonderful holiday touring the Hebrides and can highly recommend such a holiday. We sailed from Oban to Barra and finished up in the Royal Hotel in Stornoway befor sailing to Ullapool. The hotel is well positioned on the harbour front it does not look wonderfull from the outside nor does the reception area but the food in... more

We had requested a room overlooking Lewis Castle and the harbour and were very pleased with what was presented. The price to pay for it was that it was on the second floor. No complaints however, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. more

Spent one night here. Initially given a top floor room. Lino on the floors leading to room, very loud music coming from adjoining room - seemed like a staff annexe. Asked for a change of room and was given a slightly better but smaller room - cheap fittings and minute, poorly equipped bathroom. Early morning call requested but not provided.... more

I booked a a twin room and a single room for 3 nights, at short notice, directly with the hotel. When I phoned I was told that there was only one twin room left and that room had no bathroom but did have sole use of a bathroom across the corridor. The cost of this room was £99 per night... more

Friendly hotel in a great location, and both the restaurant and cafe/bar are great, but the rooms really let it down. A room you could hardly move in, with a view of a wall and drain, an old creaky bed, with the kitchen smells and noise so bad you couldn't open the window. For the price I would have expected... more

I stayed at The Royal Hotel for 1 night in April and another night in May. both visits I was lucky enough (ask) to have the front rooms facing Lews Castle. I found the food to be above average, and the staff friendly and very helpful at both stays. I liked the location on the harbor and my rooms were... more

It's Groundhog Day - again. I've been staying at the Royal now for 11 years and everything is the same. Sure, there are a few staff changes and the 'Bistro' cafe is now HS1 (and very good it is too) but the hotel itself is exactly the same. The place is slowly reverting back to nature with peeling wallpaper in... more

I had to make emergency business arrangements to stay on the Isle of Lewis over the recent bank holiday weekend, a quick search for hotels threw up “The Royal in Stornoway” I must admit that some of the reviews for this hotel had me worried, but I needed somewhere quickly!!! I should not have worried!! This hotel and its staff... more
